Extravagant public displays of affection! :)

The Call DC 08

The Call DC 08

Good morning friends!

As you know, I’m reading through the Bible in 66 days. Started 10 days ago and I’m on page 268 of my Bible. Good news! After calculating out the numbers, I realized that I’m on pace for hitting the finish line on day 36! It’s always fun to demolish a personal goal!

This morning I read the book of 2Samuel… its crammed with amazing content from beginning to end! There’s something in chapter six I want to bless you guys with today!

As some of you know, the Ark of the covenenant was stolen by the Philistines during the evil priesthood of Eli and his two wicked sons. For Israel, this Ark represented Gods presence… so it was a huge deal for them. For more than twenty years, this Ark was passed around from place to place, resting in some Priests back yard for the majority of this time.

Once David became King, he went and got the Ark and brought into Jerusalem making it the centerpiece of their country once again! David valued Gods presence and knew that Israel would not do well during his reign if God was not in the very heart of their land! So he built a special tabernacle for the Ark and posted worshipers to praise God 24 hours a day throughout his reign! No wonder Israel remained invincible during this time!

As soon as the Ark of the Covenant made it into Jerusalem, David did something uncommon for Kings back in that era. He showed God an extravagant public display of affection! David got so caught up in the awe of this glorious moment that he danced like a crazy person until some of his clothes fell off.

Davids wife wasn’t happy with him and claimed that he dishonored his throne by acting so foolishly. She went so far as to suggesting that people would no longer “respect” King David because of these undignified actions.

Davids response to his wife is so classic… “I was dancing before the Lord, who chose me… he appointed me as the leader of Israel… so I am willing to ACT LIKE A FOOL in order to show my JOY in the Lord. Yes, I am willing to LOOK EVEN MORE FOOLISH THAN THIS…”

So many people these days seem to want to HIDE their affections for God. They will tell you that your worship is a “private thing.” King David disagreed… and so should we! Let’s celebrate like crazy people all day long today… with our very own EXTRAVAGANT PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION towards God. He has given us so much, so let’s not be quiet about it! Maybe, when we start making God the centerpiece of our world, we will start winning battles like the glorious King David did!

Have another perfect day on your way to a perfect week!

Awesome word, makes me think of that old worship song "and I'll become even more undignified than this"

  2. chuckslife says:

Yeah… me too Justin! I love that song… its just too short, like the writer never finished the project. It would be cool if a band redid it with more content. Dont you think?

Pastor Chuck, just saw where you've been blogging and figured I'd check out. Go figure the first blog I read leaves me with a question. It's kind of off the subject(great thoughts in your blog), my question however is about the reading the Bible in 66 days. I always see these "read the Bible in a year" programs, but they don't really appeal to me all that much. Reading the Bible in 66 days however, appeals to me greatly. I love to read and study it, and enjoy reading through the entire thing. Is there a website maybe that you got the guidelines or suggested readings from? Or did you just divide the number of pages by 66? haha

Wow Cody… I'm super impressed with your comment buddy! You're so much like me in that I get bored if I'm not doing something way over the top.

No, there's no formula for my madness… I just started with Genesis, reading a book each day. The good news is that if I keep reading the average number of pages per day I've been reading… it will only take 36 days.

And if that ends up being the case, I may try to do that 6 or 7 more times over the next 12 months.

Who knows, I might just make it my life routine. Set like some kind of goal to read the Bible through cover to cover 7 times per year for the rest of my life! Can you imagine how much we would experience God like this?

  5. Cody Jacobs says:

Wow, I can't even imagine. I would like to though, so maybe I'll give it a shot as well. That's shows another example that God's Word is alive. You could it read a countless number of times, and each time learn new things. It never gets old, if anything it renews itself each time you go through it. Well, good luck with your goal, I'm sure it will be accomplished in no time!
