Our Unfinished Sunroom Wrapped 4 Christmas
Happy Wednesday Everybody!
Last night, we hosted our Destiny Family Center executive leadership team for dinner… had a phenomenal time!
Every year we host all of our Executives, Directors, and Coordinators for dinners and PARTIES! In all, close to 100 friends come to our house over four nights. Emily and I LOVE to do this, we really get emotional about all the beautiful people on our team who help make this vision fly!
Since our sun room is not finished being constructed yet, Emily has been moping around the house for the past few weeks, unable to get her usual Christmas party cheer up and going. Until last Friday… when she got the crazy idea that we would go ahead and use our “unfinished” sunroom for our dinners and Christmas parties this year! She had a plan… Oh God, she had a plan!
Emily claims that the glorious light of this idea descended upon her goofy little head during one of our runs. As you know, we are distance runners… and it’s always scary to predict what Emily will come up with when her “happy endorphins” mob together into dangerous bursts of creativity!
Since the room is already under roof and without insulation and drywall… she had us wrap the entire room in CHRISTMAS WRAPPING PAPER! Yes she did! And as much as I hate to admit this… her idea was a great one! Oh you can believe that I wasn’t as enthusiastic as Emily had hoped when she first drafted me into this 15 hour project! Yet, today I sit humbled and awed at her intuitive leadership. I will try to post some photos later…
I thank God for the crazy ideas Emily comes up with from time to time. Actually, she’s always coming up with them! Her creativity makes life FUN!
Ecclesiastes 10:10 says this, “Since a dull ax requires great strength, SHARPEN THE BLADE. that’s the value of wisdom; it helps you succeed.” Our dull ax this Christmas was the unfinished sun room. It was keeping us from showing the kind of over the top hospitality we wanted to show our dearest partners! Emily refused to sit in dullness this Christmas season… she sharpened her ax while exercising… and out came a wise idea that helped us succeed! Because of this wise idea, we will be letting our leadership know how very special they are in a way they wont soon forget! Think about it… how often does a person get to see a 22×22 room wrapped in Christmas paper and decorated with beautiful Christmas trees and decorations?
Sharpen your axes my friends… life doesn’t have to be so DULL… one wise idea can rocket you into untold success! And I am praying that for each of you this day!! Dont forget church tonight… 7pm- watch online if you cant make it in person! See you guys tomorrow!

Hey Pastor This is a great story and what a perfect example of “Christmas Unwrapped” as a message you preached a few years ago. What I see is…. the room is still the same room no matter how it is wrapped or packaged but the real gift is what is inside the room which is (the presence) not the Presents. See, you wanted everything perfect and good for the people you love but they come to spend time with you and that is the true gift to one another.
I love EM and her ideas!!! You guys are so much fun!
