Happy Tuesday Friends!
I can’t wait to post a few photos of Fred the snow alien we created yesterday… we, meaning Heaven and me! Coree was the quality control guy and Emily waited inside on the couch under a nice warm blanket! I’m gonna have to post from my office… laptop is acting up again… bad, bad laptop! Still dreaming of MacBook Pro!
Had to speak at the funeral of a church friend last night. She was only 29… lived one of the most difficult lives ever! The doctors said that her body was aged as if she were 80 something. During the service, I got emotional a few times… broken inside at the shortness of her life here on earth. I grieved harder than usual for the broken family. It was an experience I wasn’t expecting.
Here’s what I’ve taken away from that moment…
- 1. Life is short even if we live to 80 and beyond. Even though I believe thatwe all have the promise ofLONG life and a SATISFYING life according to Psalm 91… things happen and we never know when our timewill be up.
- 2. We should aim for a FULL LIFE… whether it be long or short, it can be FULL!
- 3. We should aim for a FRUITFULL life… doing things with every year that really matter in the face of eternity!
- 4. We should pray for the compassion of Jesus so that we can SINCERELY CARE for our less than fortunate acquaintances. There are so many people like Loretta our there just hoping for someone to help them smile! We can hang that smile on their faces!
- 5. We should love our family and close friends EVERY DAY… breathing in every moment!
While I was building the snow alien with heaven, I thought about the funeral that was coming up at 5:30 last night. It felt as if time had frozen as the fallen precipitation. I looked at her several times as she laughed and smiled… she was enjoying her Dad so much! In my mind, I traveled 70 years into the future… to the exact spot where that snow alien laid… to the place of that beautiful moment with my daughter… and I was gone… it was gone…
Psalm 39:4-5 NLT says,
“Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered—
how fleeting my life is.
You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand.
My entire lifetime is just a moment to you;
at best, each of us is but a breath.”
Life is short… pay attention… breathe it in… all of it!
Have a super day… I’m taking Heaven to get her wisdom teeth taken out… PLEASE pray for Emily and me as we care for our DRAMA QUEEN daughter!! LOL
