Out on a limb

This is written by Jonathan Woodard, as a guest blogger to give Pastor Chuck a much-needed break from his faithfully-written blogs.

Ezra found himself in a peculiar place. In his discussions with the king of Babylon, he had rightfully boasted, “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, …” But that meant that he had put himself out on a limb alone.

Because of that statement, he would be too ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and protection on his 4-month-long, king-approved journey to Jerusalem. If he asked for help, that would undo the reasoning he had used to excuse himself to go to Jerusalem. They needed God to be with them out on that limb.

So Ezra’s band of 1200 men and their families fasted, to humble themselves and ask for a safe journey. They were like slab of meat walking through a den of lions, because of all the gold and silver they were carrying for 4 months and over 1000 miles. Scary.

Are any of you in a peculiar place because of your boasting in the Lord?

But Ezra 8:31-32 says they made it free and clear with God’s protection from the “enemies and bandits along the way.”

Women in ministry

Destiny Family Center is blessed to have some amazing women in platform ministry. We are so grateful for their vital ministry (as well as the men’s and the many women in valuable non-platform ministry).  Destiny is part of a fellowship of churches that believe  we should encourage women should obey a call to serve in any of the five-fold ministry if God calls them to that. (see Scriptural basis at this link)

Here is a video of our US General Superintendent interviewing a female senior pastor from Kentucky. God grew the church from 40 to 350 within 4 1/2 years during her senior pastorate there.  Praise the Lord!

Thanks for the add

Just want to take a moment and thank Lou for doing something special for our church:

He put our logo and a thorough description of our church on his “Links” page at his business.  Then he put it at the top of the list.  So many of you do this sort of thing in unexpected ways, and occassionally I just want to recognize someone for that.

Jesus reminded us how important it is to be thankful, when he healed the 10 lepers, but only one returned to thank. I hope I’m that 1.

So if any of you are possibly thinking of needing home remodeling, renovations, additions, plumbing, electrical, bathroom and kitchen remodels, floor sanding, and metal & copper shingle roofing distribution, talk to Lou or call Southern Pride Custom Home Builders.

Take a moment to think about who are the people you need to go out of your way to thank today.

More pressure, less lip

Chuck is letting me be a guest blogger to give my synopsis of one of the many remarkable things he preached on tonight.

Many of us have trials. Our greatest inspiration for getting through our “cross” is by looking at Jesus’ example. What did Jesus do?

Shut his mouth (to people)

When the pressure came, Jesus shut his mouth.

BY: Laurie A. Stasi

Isaiah wrote of Jesus: “He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth.”(53:7aNIV).  Chuck has a theory that the more pressure we are under, the less we should say.

Opened his mouth (to God)

He was able to do that because he opened his mouth to his Father in the Garden of Gethsemene earlier, as Chuck emphasized, with pleadings and petitions. He relied on God’s strength, and an angel messenger from God strengthened him. Chuck urged us to learn to go to the Father whether in the worst and best of times, learning that asap.

Whether or not you took notes, guess what the following says:

2. ___________ problems before they manifest!

4. Crank up your ________  _________!

6. Expect ________ intervention!

8. Shut _______  ________! (See above)

10. Know that ________ and _________ accompany every dark moment!

Sometimes: A General Message is a Specific Blessing

Good Morning Friends…

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for all the beautiful comments you guys leave every single day. Thanks for taking precious time out of your busy lives to bless me and my family! I’m sure that many times when you say kind things, you feel like you’re just sending a GENERAL message of love… when in fact, so often, your words come to me as LIFE in life’s darkest moments.

When I wrote yesterdays blog… I have to admit that I was not feeling on my game. Even when I finished and hit the publish button… I was like, “blah… but I don’t have any more time to fix it, so I have to hurry up and publish what I’ve written.”

Then I read your comments last night and realized: A message that was ”general” and weak in my eyes seemed to be “specific” and transformational in your eyes.

This is why we should wake up every day and love people! This is why we should reach out with whatever we have… whether it feels to be amazing or not!

Instead of writing a wordy blog today… I want to ask you guys to re-read yesterdays and read the comments. Barbrah Kelley is a recording artist from New Jersey that just became my friend on facebook… and yesterday, she left a comment that came to me at 11pm last night… when I needed a message like that more than air! Joshua’s message was just as BIG! And to see Lucas growing into a man of God with his revelatory thoughts… it was so nice… all the comments were far more SPECIFIC than any of you could have known!

Then, after reading the comments on the blogsite I logged in to my facebook and was blessed with something like 15 messages from all over the world from people who claim that I have been a significant blessing to them! I cant help but think that they each sat at their computers and just wrote something they thought as general… not knowing that God was using them to do something very very specific! I’m entering a NEW season in my life and needed to know that what I am doing still has VALUE… and through a bunch of general expressions, God spoke a few things to me LOUD AND CLEAR.

So go do a bunch of general things today… some of them will be more specific than you’ll know until you enter eternity. I love you guys! Chat with you later on…
