Had a super day in downtown Roanoke Virginia yesterday, celebrating 19 years with Emily! (photo of “center at the square”) Then last night, we went to the Expo Fair in Fishersville to watch our friend Cole Moore take home another first place at the motocross event.
I’ve been thinking and praying so much lately about the real meaning of life for followers of Jesus… and of course the greatest purpose of the Church. From this, I wrote a blog last week: Our Founding Manifesto
God loves us so much… he blesses us with so many blessings, who can deny this? Even in bad times, we still experience his comfort and his peace. The benefits of being in Gods family are too far beyond measuring. Each of us has our very own unique story about how God has marked our lives with beauty!
God walks with believers… we actually FEEL him living in us and moving through us in so many ways! We believe in life after death and therefore we have HOPE even in the face of death. Even though this life on earth is short, we believe that one day we will simply peel off our bodies… and that our spirits will live on forever. We believe there is a reward waiting for each of us… and that one day we will see God face to face… and that NO EYES HAS SEEN or MIND HAS EVER CONCEIVED what God has prepared for those who love him!
Because of these beliefs, most followers of Christ are motivated to bring our salvation to others! Some are motivated more… some far less. And in the face of what we BELIEVE… every follower of Jesus should be FAR MORE motivated than we have been in recent years.
If we REALLY believed that our lives on earth are “but a midst… here today and gone tomorrow” and if we really believed in a heaven and a hell… then we would be far more evangelistic… far more intentional about leading others into the light.
Luke 8:1-3 Soon afterward Jesus began a tour of the nearby towns and villages, preaching and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom of God. He took his twelve disciples with him, along with some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases. Among them were Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons; Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s business manager; Susanna; and many others who were contributing their own resources to support Jesus and his disciples.
When I read these verses this morning… they jumped in my heart. They describe a day in the life of Jesus… touring towns and villages, preaching and announcing good news.
This is a beautiful picture of ministry: Jesus always had disciples he was mentoring, and people who had been positively affected by his ministry… they traveled with him in outreaches to the rest of the unbelieving world. Every day, Jesus stayed true to his mission to: seek and save those who were lost. Luke 19:10
Notice also how there were MANY WHO WERE CONTRIBUTING THEIR RESOURCES to support Jesus and his disciples. No wonder the world was more spiritually affected during those three years than during ANY time in the rest of human existence.
When I read verses like these ones from Luke 8… I long to LIVE SO MUCH MORE LIKE JESUS LIVED. I want to gather a TEAM from all over the world and BRING A BRIGHT LIGHT into the GROSS DARKNESS!
The question we must ask ourselves today is this: Have I adequately given myself to the real meaning of life for a follower of Jesus? And what DIFFERENTLY can I do with my time, talents, and resources… that I too can SEEK AND SAVE THOSE WHO ARE… lost.
Over the coming months and years, I am recommitting my life and ministry to this mission… and I’m inviting others to JOIN me on a tour of houses, towns, villages, and nations! Here at Destiny Family Center, we are mobilizing our local community for a global mission!
Pray about joining our team in some significant way. Because of the internet, there are no more geographical boundaries. Anyone can join our tribe… and the whole world is well within our reach.
I hope todays blog gets people thinking about the real meaning of life for a follower of Jesus… and the greatest purpose of the Church. Please leave your comments and have a super day! I praying for God to bless you all…
