Get a Clear Life Vision

Happy Thursday!

Ok, so we held that GO Outreach training at Destiny Family Center last night and we’re all HIGH ON A MISSION! It feels so good to BE ALIVE like this… to be doing something that really MATTERS in the face of eternity. There are so many things I can be doing with my life, that we can be doing with our lives… and I am SO grateful to God for freeing me, and us, from the emptiness of a meager existence… into the UTTER THRILL of an EPIC DREAM!

I suppose this morning I should talk about VISIONS and DREAMS. As I type on this blank canvass today, VISION feels like the natural topic…

The following is a clip from my coming book, Make me a Legend… it’s from the middle of Chapter 6: Get a Clear Life Vision

back to the tile floor

Within a year of that 1991 encounter, I was on a grand scale quest for the purpose of my life. Why had God spared me so many times? I had friends who were killed in drunk driving accidents after leaving the same parties. Other friends that died from drug overdose while sitting right beside of me in the same motel room, smoking up the same drugs. A few of my friends even succeeded at suicide. And there I was, a mighty survivor still amongst the living! My Greatest American Hero dreams we’re on the rise again… something was up!

What had started years ago as a strange feeling deep inside my pre-adolescent heart was beginning to take over me. I began to experience an uncommon awareness of God. The one I so earnestly pursued during those early days was now pursuing me. He was watching me, following me, everywhere I went… waiting for that perfect moment when he and I could be alone and talk of things to come. Somehow, I appreciated the importance of what was happening during this prolonged spiritual epiphany so much that I gave every last ounce of my passion to that bizarre season.

There I was, face-down on that cold industrial tile floor. The time was nearing midnight. The band was still playing as a courtesy to me. All my curiosity had now reached its crest. I wanted answers to the questions God himself had planted in my heart. I mumbled in built up desperation, “God, here I am at this Saturday night bible study asking you for answers. For some reason, you spared me… and I know that when you made me, you had something very specific on your mind. Emily and I have been to rock bottom and we are both ready to do whatever you want for the rest of our lives. Please, don’t allow me to wander around aimlessly another day. Just a glimpse, give me just a picture… a snapshot of my future.”

You see, once we’re stripped down to nothing… in humility, we are primed and eager for a bona fide message from God. We don’t care what it is, we’re ready to do anything he asks of us! And this is such a spectacular place to be. All the years of blindness are finally ended… and we can SEE! We become fascinated with every simple thing like sun sets and star filled skies, chirping birds, and the beauties of a flower garden… and we start to realize that with each passing second, there are so many great things happening all around us! “Hey everyone, I can SEE! I can see so many tiny details and a hundred new spectrums of colors! I can SEE things I’ve never seen before… things I never dreamed of seeing!” Our ears become high powered spiritual antennas divinely attuned to the channel where God transmits his messages! And we find ourselves “hearing things” almost as if we’re weirding out!

This is where real life begins! Just days, weeks, or maybe a few months beyond rock bottom… the legendary process starts building momentum. The dreams come, sometimes like a blurry picture in our teary hearts… and if we give ourselves to these moments, we emerge from them with an illustrious life vision. We are liberated from the boredom of normality… we are lavished with uniqueness! Discovering the life vision discharges us just like a prized arrow shot straight to the bullseye of its championship target. Before these visions, our lives drift along without purpose and direction, tossed around by the winds of uncertainty. Tens of years pass us by while we expend our meaningless days doing whatever, wherever, whenever.

As you can tell… this section really needs to be edited. So PLEASE, give me a break on the many errors you had to suffer through. Since this is one of the first chapters I wrote almost three years ago… it needs a little tender love and care before publishing! Nevertheless… the message is powerful!

I hope this inspires more people to search for the real meaning of their own lives. We are all created for specific things… wonderful things! You see, back in 1991, I had run into rock bottom like few people do. That very painful period of time ended with the vision of my life. As you will be able to read throughout the rest of chapter 6… this is the very same vision I am still moving towards today… 18 years later! Because visions like this don’t come and go like fads.

Keep your vision PURE… don’t exaggerate. Oh, and keep it biblical. You’re not some reincarnated ancient prophet bringing a new religion to the earth, and you’re certainly not Jesus. So don’t be a freak. Some people are called to partner with other visions… maybe you are called to partner with my vision, or some other existing vision. Be as patient as you can… wait for it. And no matter how simple your vision may seem to everyone else, hold on to your vision. Dream big, live bold, and make a difference with your life!

Have a super day everyone!

Pastor Chuck, don’t worry about how your writing sounds. You are a very good writer. :0)

My pastor told me some time ago when we were talking about vision, “Ask God to paint a picture of His will for you, in your heart.” What an awesome thing! As God has painted that picture, so many things have become clear, and so many thing have fallen away — just faded out of the picture.

I like what you said about “No matter how simple your vision may seem to everyone else, hold on to your vision.” Good words. VERY good words. :0)

I’m excited about what your church is doing! And I’m believing that great things will come of this. God will be glorified, and souls will be reached. It will be a turning point for the area, I’m sure. Blessings to you!

    I'm right here:

"Before these visions, our lives drift along without purpose and direction, tossed around by the winds of uncertainty. Tens of years pass us by while we expend our meaningless days doing whatever, wherever, whenever."

I came to Christ during the Jesus Movement went to Bible College served in missions from 78 to 98 and hit bottom. For the past 11 years I have had some good years but mostly I feel as you wrote above.

    I'd appreciate your prayers,

chuck, I want to see more clearly about my life and direction in God. I do think it’s hard to see like he wants us to see. Only untill we come to the end of ourselves and know that we can’t do it in and of ourselves do we finally we are ready to do whatever it takes to do what he tells us. I’m looking forward to your book coming out, I know it will have so much insight about your continual journey in God. God Bless you, Carolyn
