I want to chat with you guys about something I read in the Bible this morning. It sounds gloomy at first, but keep reading and you will find new strength from todays message!
2 Timothy 4:3-5 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths. BUT YOU SHOULD KEEP a clear mind in every situation. DONT BE AFRAID of suffering for the Lord. WORK AT TELLING others the Good News, and FULLY CARRY OUT the ministry God has given you.
The time is coming: clearly, that time is now… when so many people no longer VALUE the ANCHOR of truth… no longer LISTEN to SOUND and WHOLESOME teaching.
To our own demise, this modern civilization seeks after new religions and new philosophies that offer us the kind of LIVES we WANT to live verses the kind of LIVES we OUGHT to live.
People are rejecting truth and chasing after myths… and RELIGION continues to mutate into weaker and weaker reflections of TRUTH.
If there is no anchor of truth and there is no clear definition of right and wrong… then we are ALL defining God as we FEEL he should be… and then, he is really no God to us at all.
Instead of reducing God… instead of rewriting God… instead of deluding his omnipotence… instead of making a god we can easily and comfortably put up with, a WEAK and POWERLESS god without standards or commands… instead rejecting any truth that calls for change… and instead of chasing after the juicy myths of our day… we should seek for TRUTH and COME UP to it… and ANCHOR OURSELVES firmly to it.
I don’t want to BRING GOD DOWN… I want God to BRING ME UP! I love the fact that HE IS GOD and I am his creation… that he is Almighty and I am his humble subordinate. I want HIM to AFFECT me with His awesomeness… and change me for the BETTER.
Back to the text: there are four commands given to us in light of this modern dilemma:
- But you should keep… a clear mind in every situation… in other words: don’t get distracted by circumstances or popular trends or anything else. This is achieved by reading the Bible and by spending quality time with God in prayer EVERY DAY! It keeps the mind CLEAR and ANCHORED IN TRUTH.
- Don’t be afraid… of suffering for the Lord… in other words: don’t be afraid to stand for truth, not in arrogance… but in humility, hold on to your standards even when you suffer the embarrassment and rejection for doing so.
- Work at telling… others the Good News… in other words: each follower of Christ has the commission of offering NEW LIFE to others. The Good News is defined in Romans 3:21-24.
- Fully carry out… the ministry God has given you… in other words: everyone has a divine purpose… and everyone should seek to live in the face of eternity… that we should help to carry out Gods ETERNAL purposes during the days of our lives.
There it is you guys… a blog about TRUTH, written in a time when so many claim there is none. Let us LOVE TRUTH… and PRESERVE it… and SEND IT AHEAD… that EACH NEW GENERATION may ANCHOR themselves in it… and HAVE THE ENDLESS PROMISES that come from LIVING IN THE TRUTH!

This is what you do best… you stand with a flag in the ground calling on Christians to maintain our ancient borders. I don't always agree with your positions, but I REALLY appreciate your passion for TRUTH… it convicts me and inspires me to stay SOLID as I seek to be relevant and out on the edge with my AGGRESSIVE DREAMS!

THIS is a great post. Without God’s clear revelaton to mankind, human knowledge of any kind would be impossible. He alone is the standard of truth, not the weak neurons floating around in our temporary brains.
WOW! Did you see inside my heart and Spirit this past week/weekend? I have been crying out to God to ONLY SHOW ME HIS TRUTH and not let me be deceived by ANYTHING that may “appear” to be His Word or from Him. I agree with you wholeheartedly that there is so much of this “feel good” mentality in churches today and we are so afraid of “offending” someone with the sole knowledge of God’s Truth! It sickens me when I hear a pastor and/or teacher giving a “feel good” message of any kind. We MUST go before the Lord no matter who we hear a teaching or sermon from for ONLY THE REAL TRUTH out of what we hear and/or read. Man is NOT PERFECT and one’s message may only be a portion for that time so it is up to us as an individual to read the complete passage(s) of scripture given and then ask for the Lord to reveal HIS TRUTH and HIS REVELATION from that.
This also relates back to your blog from yesterday on the “DESIRE” to continue to learn. If we are continually seeking God’s TRUTH, then we are continually learning at some level. I agree that we are not to just stay in a position of ONLY learning through God’s Word. He has given us so much to learn from that we are being negligent (I believe) if we don’t take advantage of all of the other areas He puts in our paths, or gives us the desire to learn.

It seems like God’s recently been speaking this over and over through various sources (or maybe we just finally started hearing it). Thank you for responding and posting. Excellent truth.

I am not writing this to offend, but to share what has been on my heart and why I've been away from posting.
The sad truth is that there are way too many people out there teaching these myths in the local church building so this has become the truth and the norm. I quite frankly am over it. I am over people feeling comfortable living in sin. I am over people being comfortable getting rich while others keep getting poorer. I am over people desiring an escape from suffering. Will those that are born again please stand up and refuse to listen to it anymore? Is it wrong to urge others to listen to truth because you love them? It seems that way to me these days. People don't really want to know the truth. If they did they would get in the Word themselves and ask God to reveal it to them. It takes sacrifice and giving up of self to get to the truth. It means that you will have to walk away for a while and be alone with God.
I love you all. I am praying that today the truth speaks from your hearts and mouths straight from God's heart and mouth.
