My Last Minute Shopping Idea: The Gift of Love!

Happy Christmas Eve!

1 John 4:12 No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.

Do you ever feel like you have so much love to give away, and you just can’t figure out how to communicate your love in a way that everyone feels its full extent?

I know thats a long statement to be opening a blog with. Especially on Christmas Eve! Let me try it like this: sometimes I want people to know how much I love them so badly, and I try to say and show it the very best I know how… and then at the end of the day I still feel as if NOBODY in all the world really knows HOW MUCH I LOVE.

Last night we hosted our annual church Christmas party. As my usual ‘party’ custom, I tried my very best to have short and meaningful conversations with each person. It was like all night long, there was something I wanted to say to everyone and I couldn’t seem to find the right words… or the right opportunity.

The night passed by so quickly, and when I blinked… it was over.

I often wonder… especially during the Christmas season: does anyone REALLY know how special they are to me? When those Christmas party guests laid their heads to the pillow last night, did the warmth of my short expressions of love blow over their hearts. Or we’re they left wondering, “Does he really care? Does anyone really care?”

I feel like there are so many people out there… wondering if anyone really cares about them. I feel like the whole world NEEDS love this Christmas more than any Christmas in the past 50 years of more! People seem so lonely, and sad about so many things. Maybe this is why I feel so overwhelmed this morning… because I am just one person-with a busier life most people can ever comprehend… and I feel so TINY at the enormity of this need.

This has been a very challenging year for us. We have made untold sacrifices to hold on to our dreams! I bet you have too! It’s the poorest Christmas of our lives. This will be the very first Christmas of our entire marriage when we will not be exchanging gifts. We haven’t been able to give anything to our ministry volunteers or our leadership… or our close friends. And every once in a while, it eats me alive!

No love doesn’t cost a thing… but it does require time. Love requires FOCUSED TIME… something so few of us have in times like these when we are working so hard to save our families, and churches, and companies, and everything else!

I guess my Christmas Eve message to you is this: There is no better time of the year than Christmas to offer the GIFT OF LOVE. No matter your current financial position… PAUSE everything today and tomorrow-as much as possible… FOCUS and LOVE the best you know how-the best you are able.

Love is the still greatest GIFT! So if you are looking for a last minute gift idea, this is it! You wont have to spend all day in long lines and backed up traffic. Give what you already have… the BEST YOU HAVE… give LOVE!

For me, the office is closed today and I’m not planning to write all that much. When my family wakes, I want to express my love to them more than ever before… I want them to know how special they are to me… that I love them and cherish them more than anything else in all the world!

1 John 4:12 No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.

I hope todays blog gives you some much needed last minute Christmas FOCUS! I hope it keeps you from getting depressed about some of the MINOR aspects of Christmas. I pray you all a Christmas of LOVE… more LOVE than you’ve EVER SHARED IN ALL YOUR LIVES! And that will make for the holiest-jolliest Christmas ever!

I love you all!

What I think of when I read your blog today is short and sweet. Put LOVE FIRST and everything else will fall into place as it should.
