Journal: Still With My Father-in-Law: It’s Time 4 My Miracle!

Happy Wednesday!

Sorry again, for another short and late blog. I don’t have internet access at my in-laws house… and our schedule is very intense right now… a perfect combination for these shenanigans. lol

On Monday evening, the doctors didn’t expect my father in law to make it through the night. Things improved throughout the night… and yesterday seemed like somewhat of a small comeback.

Late yesterday morning, when we were all sitting in his hospital room… I walked up to Merle and patted his right shoulder and told him I loved him. And Merle said to me, “Well Chuck, it looks like it getting to be that time.” A bunch of us responded all at once, “Getting ready to be what time Merle?” He gently smiled back at us and said, “Time for my miracle.”

It was a powerful moment! Here we were thinking Merle was folding up his towel and heading for heaven… and he was really saying, “These poor natural conditions are perfect for a miracle.”

What an inspiration he continues to be. So much love and kindness radiating from his humble heart. Every time Merle talks, he pays a high price. He’s barely able to catch his next breath… and yet, he spends his wind, saying nice things to his family. Being in the room with him is like being on holy ground. I don’t want to take my eyes off of this beautiful person!

Based upon Merle’s natural condition, he’s days away from eternity. He told me just a few weeks ago, “Chuck, no matter how this turns out, I win. There is no downside to the Christian life! Even though, I want to stay in the earth for many more years, I’m ready to go… I’m not scared… I know where I’m going.”

It’s gonna take a miracle for Merle to go on living. The doctors tell us he has tumors all over his body, his chest cavity is flooded with fluids, his bone marrow is not producing a single drop of blood, his blood is too thick for his heart to keep working… the list goes on and on.

Last night we were discussing his natural options… stay in hospital, go home with hospice, continue his blood transfusions, stop the transfusions, etc. It was then I realized… that without a miracle, nothing the doctors were offering had any real chance at adding time to Merle’s life. Short of a miracle, this is it…

So, what can we do in times like these? Thank God for the doctors and nurses, and the medicine, and surgical procedures, and medical equipment… and then, turn our eyes to God! Believe, in the face of impossibility… that God can still move the mountains. And if we die fighting, at least we die knowing we held on to the very last breath.

Psalm 103:1-5

1 Bless the LORD, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
3 Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
4 Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s!

So, we’re going to stand in the face of these odds and believe for days, and weeks, and months, and years… be added to Merle’s life! Merle has already far exceeded all the predictions of his doctors. And even in his darkest moment, he still keeps saying bold things about what he believes, like…

Well Chuck, it looks like it’s getting ready to be that time… time for my miracle!

I believe with you MERLE! I believe all things are possible to them that believe! I’m memorizing Psalm 103:1-5… and claiming these verses over Royce Merle Wall! I’m praying for God to heal all his diseases… and redeem his life from destruction… to crown him with lovingkindness and tender mercies… and satisfy his mouth with good things… so that HIS youth is renewed like the EAGLES!

Maybe you are facing some impossible situation in your own life today. Never quit! Never give in! Never give up! Fight until your very last breath! And perhaps you will see a MIRACLE or TWO in your amazing life! One thing is certain: In the words of Wayne Gretzky (the greatest hockey player to ever live) You will miss 100% of the shots you never take!

I spent a very long time praying for my family and friends this morning… hope you feel the difference all day long!

Dream Big, Live Bold, and Make the Difference!
