Paranoia Kills Originality!

Happy Friday!

Had an interesting conversation with my dear friend Wayne Howard last night. He actually asked me to be more RADICAL!

Me??? More radical! Ha-ha-ha-haaaaaaa! Coming right up! lol

Really, this friend came to me in great humility and said the following, “When I first started following your blog, you were a whole lot more BOLD than you are today. It seems today like you’re trying to keep from offending people… like you’re trying to play it safe… and you’re not challenging me like you once did.”

He continued, “I’m not saying that I agreed with all your thoughts… in fact, you riled me up a few times, you made me mad a few times… but, I would rather be riled up than to read something from middle ground that fails to MOVE ME!”

I appreciated his courageous feedback… and I’ve been thinking about his comments since that conversation. And you know what? He’s right!

I Became Paranoid

You see, 2009 was a year of unprecedented betrayal and rejection for me… and it left me more than a little paranoid! Not wanting to EVER repeat that kind of agony, I subconsciously moved toward middle ground. I didn’t like the feeling of being rejected like that… so I decided to adjust my approach, in an attempt to keep more people liking me!

Don’t be too hard on me… I bet you’ve done the same thing in your own life! And if we’re ALL not very careful… we will move towards middle ground every time we are rejected, until we’re not really presenting an ORIGINAL life or message.

Jesus Was a Radical!

The ultimate Christian challenge is to become more like Jesus. Jesus did not spend his life at MIDDLE GROUND. Despite some of the twisted popular depictions of Jesus circulating through this modern society… Jesus was hated as much as he was loved… he was killed for his radical life and message. When Jesus was rejected, he kept on presenting his truth without flinching under the pressure of popular opinion.

Be a Radical!

And we have to do the same! Whereas we should not act like arrogant fools and then claim we are being persecuted for Christ sake… we should also beware of fearing rejection and seeking acceptance soooo much that we are BLAND IN A TASTELESS world!

Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.

Yes, we should continually adjust our CHARACTER… so that we are always becoming more and more like Jesus in every single way. When presenting truth, we have to do this fearlessly and without apology. Jesus NEVER adjusted his message down. Neither should we adjust our truth down for the sake of being accepted.

When presenting political truth, we have to maintain that balance between raising our voice AND honoring the authorities that exist. Re-read my past two blogs on political correctness:

Be Original!

The world doesn’t need… the world doesn’t want another MIDDLE GROUND person. In todays tasteless society, to be original is to be radical! When a person choses to be original, he STANDS OUT… and that for many people, is very uncomfortable. But we must push through the fear of rejection to SHINE LIKE STARS IN THIS UNIVERSE!

Paranoia kills originality!

So get over it fast! Be original! Be Powerful! Start today!

For more on this subject… check out the following two blogs… they are two of my personal favorites!!

Thats it for today… hope you loved it! And if you didn’t… too bad, SHUT UP! (lol) Just kidding!! haha!

Dream Big, Live Bold, and Make the Difference!

  1. Hey,

    Bravo Wayne!!!

I know it's hard when you feel like you are under scrutiny, to be objective. Man, it's like tip-toeing on bubble wrap, it's no fun and you don't get to make as big an impact.

I think that you have become more humble over the last few years and eventually things will just even out. I remember a sermon you did a long time ago on pruning and how it really hurts sometimes. You were right, it hurts. But, look at the good that has come out of it. The current leadership team at our church is much more approachable than it has ever been. I feel like I can trust them all because they have the same vision:)

    Mel:)

    • True that Mel! Great thoughts!! And you know, being more INWARDLY humbly affords us the privilege of being far more outwardly radical.

The more we value people, the more we genuinely LOVE them, the more they will OPEN their hearts to our message… even when that message doesn't taste too good at first.

People don't want to hear how much we know until they know how much we care…

  2. Pastor Chuck: The first time I ever heard you preach was at my sister's ranch and I was blown away by how "radical" you were. That was what I so loved about you and how you delivered the word because you weren't afraid to tell it like it is and to be radical like Jesus. I loved your demonstrations. I know that as we grow in the Lord and we "mature" in our walk we do seem to calm down some. That doesn't mean to not be LIKE JESUS and we should stop allowing man dictate who we are and how we deliver God's Word. In today's society, I believe if we are passive and not radical people won't even see us, much less hear what we have to say. If we become "radical" in letting our light shine on a daily basis without really saying a word, but showing Jesus Love to all that cross our paths…think of what we can accomplish and how many lives we can impact. My Pastor has been preaching on God's Love and being "radical" daily and even though some of what God has given him hurts…I soak it in and take it to heart as I know God is trying to get us back to that point and I personally want to be "radical" for my Jesus. Thank you for being so humble and honest.

  4. The middle of the road is average and we can be average without really trying. Average, middle of the road is a grade "C". We geniunely love you Pastor Chuck. I did not mean to disrespect or dishonor you in any way.If I did please forgive me and make that charge to my head and not my heart. There will always be pressure on you because of your calling. From pressure comes 2 things Diamonds and Character

  5. THAT IS A AWESOME CHARACTER YOU ARE DISPLAYING AND TRUE LOVE WAYNE,BUT I STILL THINK YOU ARE WHINEING LIKE A LITTLE GIRL. ha!ha!HA!HA!

  6. Don't let Mark taunt you Wayne… I appreciate the humility! lol You did make me laugh Mark!! As you can see from the blog… God really used your comments to make a very big difference in my heart AND you helped me to write a slam dunk blog!! Lovin all the comments from everyone today… powerful moment of revelation for all of us!

  7. Thank you for verbalizing something that's been on the periphery of my brain for a few months now. I had decided, that even though I am trying to build a business, my blogs would reflect the real me, which includes someone who loves Jesus and contemplates living like a true Christian. It's tempting to try to be as inoffensive and politically correct as possible, but it's not the real me.

Jesus is radical, and God made us each one of a kind, to reflect His image. I can tell you get that. I look forward to reading more!

  8. I liked when you said "And if you didn’t… too bad, SHUT UP!" I cracked up laughing.:D

We all need to be more radical like Jesus, hopefully I can become more radical because i'm probably the most shy and quiet person at school. I shouldn't be like that because I shouldn't hide the confidence that God has given me to speek about him sand say things how they are.:D

  9. Rosa… I love your transparency… and I can tell from your few comments that you are a very amazing person! Are you in High School or College? How did you end up in this crazy tribe? It has been such a pleasure reading your comments these past few days!! Hope you're getting snow today… looks like we're getting about 8-10 inches. Yaye!

  10. It is hard being yourself when others reject you, but God expects nothing but you. So therefore today and everyday I will only be myself. I won't put on a mask to hide behind. I will continue to live Bold and Big for Christ.

Chuck I pray that you are well and healing. HuGs.
