Happy Sunday!

I was thinking about my 10am message for Destiny Family Center this morning… and I wrote the following:

Courage is a crucial element in success! For me, courage is faith, and faith is knowing God! Today, I am FEARLESS!

Joshua 1:6-9 “Be strong and COURAGEOUS, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. Be strong and very COURAGEOUS. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and COURAGEOUS. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

God tells Joshua to be COURAGEOUS three times in three verses! Do you think I’m on to something here?

Now, take a closer look at this text. What else is God saying to him (and us)?

How about in the very MIDDLE or the HEART of these three verses?

“Be careful to OBEY all the law my servant Moses gave you [In the Bible, the term 'law' speaks of the revealed Word of God, the cannon of scripture, the Bible]; DO NOT TURN FROM IT to the right or to the left, that you may BE SUCCESSFUL WHEREVER YOU GO. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; MEDITATE ON IT day and night, so that you may BE CAREFUL TO DO everything written in it. Then you will BE PROSPEROUS and SUCCESSFUL.”

Now is my phrase starting to make sense?

Courage is a crucial element is success. For me, courage is faith, and faith is knowing God! Today I am FEARLESS!

I Woke Up Scared!

Here’s what was going on with me this morning: I was thinking about a few of the discouraging aspects of my past, my shattered dreams, my insufficiencies, all the obstacles before me… and I in a few short minutes, I had been diluted down to a fraction of my potency!

Are you doing this to yourself, unbeknownst? Wanna know how to STOP IT?

Courage is Faith & Faith is Knowing God!

In three verses, God gave Joshua one of the greatest speeches about success. This is the speech that echoed into Joshua’s future and made him one of the greatest military leaders in all of history!

Romans 10:17 “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

So, where can a person get faith? Where does faith come from? It comes from SPIRITUALLY KNOWING the Word of God!

This is what God was actually saying, “Joshua, I’m asking you to make history here! You’re about to go down in Israel’s chronicles as one of the greatest military leaders of all time… and it’s going to take COURAGE! So, here is HOW YOU GET COURAGE: Meditate of my Word so much that you KNOW it like few have ever known it before you, then DO WHAT IT SAYS, don’t swerve off from it to the right or the left, Be very careful to live how it leads you to live and do what it leads you to do! Don’t live by your EMOTIONS… LIVE BY FAITH! And that will produce COURAGE… and that will make you prosperous and successful EVERYWHERE YOU GO!”

New Faith, New Courage, New Successes!

Same goes for you and me! I guess NOW would be a good time to open our Bibles and meditate of a scripture until it PRODUCES NEW FAITH in our heart. NEW FAITH produces NEW COURAGE, and NEW COURAGE brings NEW SUCCESSES!

Happy Friday!

Job 1:6-11
One day the members of the heavenly court came to present themselves before the Lord, and the Accuser, Satan, came with them. “Where have you come from?” the Lord asked Satan.

Satan answered the Lord, “I have been patrolling the earth, watching everything that’s going on.”

Then the Lord asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless-a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil.”

Satan replied to the Lord, “Yes, but Job has good reason to fear God. You have always put a wall of protection around him and his home and his property. You have made him prosper in everything he does. Look how rich he is! But reach out and take away everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face!”

As this story goes, Satan struck at Jobs heart so badly… here we are thousands of years later, still referencing this guy when trying to cope with life’s most fiery trials!

• A messenger arrived at Jobs house with the news: “Your oxen were plowing, with the donkeys feeding beside them, when the Sabeans raided us. They stole all the animals and killed all the farmhands. I am the only one who escaped to tell you.”
• While the first messenger was talking, a second messenger arrived with the news: “The fire of God has fallen from heaven and burned up your sheep and all the shepherds. I am the only one who escaped to tell you.”
• While the second messenger was still talking, a third messenger arrived with the news: “Three bands of Chaldean raiders have stolen your camels and killed your servants. I am the only one who escaped to tell you.”
• While that messenger was still talking still ANOTHER messenger came with the news: “Your sons and daughters were feasting in their oldest brother’s home. Suddenly, a powerful wind swept in from the wilderness and hit the house on all sides. The house collapsed, and all your children are dead. I am the only one who escaped to tell you.”
• And later… Satan left the Lord’s presence, and he struck Job with terrible boils from head to foot. Job scraped his skin with a piece of broken pottery as he sat among the ashes. His wife said to him, “Are you still trying to maintain your integrity? Curse God and die.”

Can you IMAGINE?

Ok, so why am I talking about Job today?

Well, last night at prayer meeting… I heard the audible voice of God!

This has only happened a few times in my entire life… and not in many years! So it was a HUGE DEAL!

While we were praying, I was walking around the alter area, worship music was playing in the background… and out of NOWHERE, God said to me, “I am so proud of you!”

And then I saw a vision of everything that happened to Job… and then the past twelve months of my life, replayed right in front of me… I saw gigantic demons flying down over me… the sky lost its sunlight as they filled the skies above me… for twelve months! I saw God looking down on me, WITH GREAT CONFIDENCE, knowing that I WOULD NOT CURSE HIM!

And last night, he said to me, “I am so proud of you!”

Double 4 Your Trouble!

At the end of this Jobs trial… the Lord gave him twice as much as before! TWICE AS MUCH!

Job 42:11-17
Then all his brothers, sisters, and former friends came and feasted with him in his home. And they consoled him and comforted him because of all the trials the Lord had brought against him. And each of them brought him a gift of money and a gold ring.

So the Lord blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning. For now he had 14,000 sheep (used to have 7000), 6,000 camels (used to have 3000), 1,000 teams of oxen (used to have 500), and 1,000 female donkeys (used to have 500).

He also gave Job seven more sons and three more daughters. He named his first daughter Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-happuch. In all the land no women were as lovely as the daughters of Job. And their father put them into his will along with their brothers.

Job lived 140 years after that, living to see four generations of his children and grandchildren. Then he died, an old man who had lived a long, full life!

Happily Ever After!

Have you ever been through a Job like set of bizarre circumstances? Does it seem like SATAN is stalking you NOW… like YOU are the unfortunate specimen for his next VIOLENT EXPERIMENT? Do you ever feel HUNTED… pursued by dark forces… and in those times, you can’t see a single ray of light shining through the thick dark clouds over your head?

Never curse God and die! Learn from this story about Job! Why do bad things happen to good people? Because good people are the best TARGET! John 10:10 says, “The thief (the devil) comes to steal, kill, and destroy… and I (Jesus) have come that you might HAVE LIFE… ABUNDANT LIFE!”

Peter said this about fiery trials: Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something STRANGE were happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

There is a LIGHT at the end of EVERY long dark tunnel! The sun is ALWAYS shining above the storm clouds! God loves you! He’s always fighting FOR you! He is so proud of you! He’s the one thats cheering for you and always believing in you. So, never curse him… never accuse him of forsaking you.

Trust him… and you will LIVE to see a LONG FULL DOUBLY BLESSED LIFE on the other side of your FIERY TRIAL!

Happy Wednesday!

Thank God for breaking our lives down into manageable increments: days, weeks, months, years, decades. They call today the MIDWEEK. It is assumed that if a person can make it to Wednesday, they can tough out the final few days of the week, leading into the weekEND.

This morning, when I woke… I thought about the not so advantageous beginning to this final week, of the second month, of my most prolific year!

Since I woke up at 4:15am, I laid in bed for a few extra minutes today, trying to figure out HOW I was going to turn this sucky week around.

The Turning Point

Finally, I threw off the sheets, got up, put on my sweat pants and shoes, walked around to Emily’s side of the bed… gave her a long hug and a few kisses on the forehead, drove to the office, took my shower, opened up my computer…

Change the Tune

I turned on SOME HAPPY MUSIC, opened my Bible… read some HAPPY VERSES from the book of psalms, I turned the music up louder… and walked around my office praising God for all of his blessings in my life! I magnified the good things happening in my life… SHOUTED: “For every one thing going wrong, there are a HUNDRED things going right for me THIS WEEK!”

Of course, I could have left my emotions in charge… I could have kept my MIND on the throne of my total person… I could have gotten up and whimpered my battered body into the office with the FEAR of what’s next! I could have rolled over and slept a few more hours… I could have…

But I didn’t! And you why? Because this is the MIDWEEK! This is the TURNING POINT! This is the day when the HEAVENS OPEN UP OVER MY HEAD! This is the day when God swoops down to my rescue!

Turn Your Tide!

And how can I know this for sure? Because, I am the prophet over my own life… and I SAY IT SHALL BE! Not that I am above God, but that I am COOPERATING with him… I am listening to him today, instead of my EMOTIONS!

And today he says to me, “For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain! My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you. “O storm-battered city, troubled and desolate! I will rebuild you…” -Isaiah 54:10-11a

And today he says to me, “All goes well for those who are generous, who lend freely and conduct their business fairly. Such people will not be overcome by evil circumstances. Those who are righteous will be long remembered. They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them. They are confident and fearless and they can face their foes triumphantly!” -psalm 112:5-8

Today, I chose to live by FAITH! Today I chose to TURN MY TIDE!

Or, I could do just like most everyone else in such circumstances… I could hang my head low, and feel bad for myself, and say things like, “Oh God, I wonder what’s next, because when it rains it pours.” NO WAY!

My life is not the product of chance! My life is NOT the result of other peoples actions! My life IS the product of FAITH! I’m not sitting here with my FINGERS CROSSED… and neither should you! I’m dancing around my office like a crazy person, with my hands raised to heaven! I’m committing my day into the hands of my OMNIPOTENT FATHER! He’s my HERO! I confidently trust in the Lord to care for me, therefore, I will not fear bad news! I am CONFIDENT and FEARLESS and I CAN FACE MY FOES TRIUMPHANTLY!

I guess what I’m saying is this… our turning points begin just as soon as we CHANGE THE MUSIC!

Today is MIDWEEK! Today is the TURNING POINT! So, refuse to go out of this week as the victim of circumstance… CHANGE THE TUNE, TURN THE TIDE… you CAN DO THIS NOW!

Happy Monday!

I know I keep bragging to you guys about the amazingness of every church service @ Destiny Family Center! And just when I thought things could not get any better, yesterday happened! EVERY SECOND of that 10am service was like a PURE TASTE OF HEAVEN!

Aaron Huffer led our worship team with the BEST worship session in a YEAR! I felt like I was crossing over into another REALM at times… wanted it to last forever!

Dave Harman gave a POWERFUL prophecy at the end of worship, debunking Mr. Groundhog… saying that the long cold winter season is ending… and SPRING IS UPON US! Whether he was predicting warmer temperatures and bright sunshine in this physical world or a spiritual season of warmth and growth and fruitfulness, we all sensed the CHANGE!

Here’s the scripture Dave read to us:

Song of Solomon 2:10-13

My lover spoke and said to me,

“Arise, my darling,
my beautiful one, and come with me.

¹¹ See! The winter is past;
the rains are over and gone.

¹² Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves
is heard in our land.

¹³ The fig tree forms its early fruit;
the blossoming vines spread their fragrance.
Arise, come, my darling;
my beautiful one, come with me.”

After Dave’s prophecy, we heard stories from yesterdays Washington DC Homeless Outreach Team… it was moving… VERY MOVING!

Then, we were privileged with a BEAUTIFUL SONG from Jazmin Howard, she’s ELEVEN!

The sermon was PROFOUND, if I do say so myself! I felt God possessed my body and made his appeal through me… the channel was OPEN, every single word felt to be INSPIRED… and what a difference it seemed to be MAKING!

Two people responded to my invitation, they came forward and gave their hearts to Jesus!

We spent the next hour praying for people and hearing stories about how much transformation took place during that service!

Then for the rest of the day, our friends Chef Danny & Dolly Leslie came to our house… they brought my daughter culinary gifts and cooked lunch and dinner and pastries for 5 straight hours. What a TIME WE HAD! Josh & Brittany Wade came over and helped us EAT… and that we DID… all day long!

We went to bed at 10:30pm… fell asleep thanking God for the fires of last year and how they TESTED and PROVED our friendships! I am the richest man in the world… loved and appreciated by a BOAT LOAD of BEAUTIFUL FAMILY & FRIENDS!
