One minute we can feel like we are changing the world, like at any moment all of our efforts will bring this troubled universe to a necessary halt and then send it spinning in the right direction… and in the next minute, we can feel like we are nothing more than a tiny bird on a skyscraper balcony rail, peeping our good message out into an endless abyss of blaring sounds.
Sometimes, this world can be so intimidating. Sometimes it stares and points the good man down… with its accumulated intelligence, and its harsh mockery. The godless voices rumble in defiance to mute down every humble messenger of hope… until it seems like there is nothing left for the good bird to do, but flee to the mountains… in search of a sanctuary where his faint song can resonate through the valleys and become the euphoric ambiance of a simpler, better world.
This morning, I watched a few news debates at foxnews.com. On one of these debates, two high profile individuals tore each other apart over the condition of our world. One of them mocked Jesus and the Christian population. He was dressed in a $10,000 suite, sitting in a multimillion dollar NYC studio, appearing to be powerful beyond comprehension.
As I watched, I thought to myself, “Will either of these guys read my book? If they do, will they mock it into an oblivion or simply speed read through chapter one and then throw it in the trash? Has this world become too ‘advanced’ for my humble peeping?”
Read the following verses very slowly… meditate on them all day long.
Romans 1:21-25 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles. So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies. They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.
1 Corinthians 3:18-20 Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a “fool” so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”; and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.
1 Corinthians 2:13-14 When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.
1 Corinthians 1:26-29 Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.
Key phrases from these great verses:
Their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools… For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight… People who aren’t spiritual can’t receive (comprehend) these truths from God’s Spirit… God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are.
Dear follower of Jesus: Don’t ever buckle under the temporary pseudo powers of this failing modern civilization. Keep on peeping out your humble messages of hope… keep on singing your beautiful song… be the ambiance of tomorrows simpler, better world… until the whole world finally appreciates your humble sanctuary!
In the last days, the mountain of the Lord’s house
will be the highest of all—
the most important place on earth.
It will be raised above the other hills,
and people from all over the world will stream there to worship.
People from many nations will come and say,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of Jacob’s God.
There he will teach us his ways,
and we will walk in his paths.”
For the Lord’s teaching will go out from Zion;
his word will go out from Jerusalem.
The Lord will mediate between peoples
and will settle disputes between strong nations far away.
They will hammer their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will no longer fight against nation,
nor train for war anymore.
I believe the time will come… when the powers of this world will be humbled. Man will realize his need for God again. He will look to the mountain. He will admire the birds. Some of us will live to see this with our own eyes.
