You Don’t Have To Be A Creepy Hermit To Walk With God.

Happy Tuesday!

For the past two days (early morning), I’ve been praying in the DFC sanctuary with Ricky Lee Wade and Betty Dorondo. Early morning prayer, worship, bible meditation, and journaling… the greatest and longest running routine of my life. Without it, I would not have the impact I’m having today.

For the past 20 years, I’ve spent more time in direct conversation with God than any other human, including my own best friend and wife, Emily Balsamo.

I know this is hard to believe, but it is true. Prayer is not a chore for this guy. I talk with God so much, sometimes I wonder if I might be out of my mind. More than that, He actually talks back to me! He speaks to me from the pages of the Bible… and through inward spiritual impressions, and messages I can hear in my mind. A few times, He has spoken to me with an audible voice. No, I’m not schizophrenic and I’m not one to wander through town waiting for instructions about which direction I should turn at traffic lights.

And no, I’m not a socially handicapped individual. I think if you ask around, you will find that I interact with people as well as it can be done! I have many friends and I am the friend to many. I have rich friends and poor friends, young friends and old friends, black friends and white friends… friends in the church and friends outside of the church.

You don’t have to become a creepy hermit to WALK WITH GOD.

(By the way, I love todays photo! I really don’t think that guy is a “creepy hermit,” but I didn’t have the time to search for a better image.)

In this age, many people are fearful about getting too close to God. They keep a safe distance because they are afraid about how they may be perceived by the modern world. Because so much harm has been done in the name of “God said,” many seem unwilling to listen for God’s direction.

The way of character is the will of God. Certainly, the very first voice we want to hear from God is the voice of His written Word (the Bible). Since God will never speak a message or give a direction that is contrary to His revealed will (the Bible), we must create a spiritual compass by internalizing the bible. Christians should read through the Bible once every year by reading 4 chapters per day! This is the easiest and surest way of hearing and knowing God’s will.

Besides the Bible, Christians should learn how to fellowship with God in prayer and worship. King David was addicted to God’s PRESENCE and so should we.

The thoughts of this blog come from one of my all time favorite Psalms. I read it this morning and it set me on fire… as it always does! Enjoy it: Psalm 84:1-4 NLT

How lovely is your dwelling place,
O Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

I long, yes, I faint with longing
to enter the courts of the Lord.
With my whole being, body and soul,
I will shout joyfully to the living God.

Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young
at a place near your altar,
O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God!

What joy for those who can live in your house,
always singing your praises.

King David is known as the man after God’s own heart. David still remains, the greatest worshiper of all time. He was addicted to the written scriptures. He was addicted to fellowship with God through prayer and worship. David was not a creepy hermit. On the contrary, he was the most influential and beloved man of his era… and one of the most influential and beloved people in Biblical history!

Here is my prayer this morning:

Dear God, make me a King David in the modern world! Give my friends and me the HEART of David, the heart of prayer and worship. May we adore your dwelling place and faint with longing to enter the courts of the Lord! Let us know the joy of those who live in your house, always singing your praises!

It’s radical… I hope you love it!

  1. This is one of the many things I love about our church, It's powerful prayer team! This is something, like anything else it MUST be originated from the HEAD down. You, Pastor are a powerful, strong prayer warrior and I am blessed to be sitting under you.

You are the real thing! People need to learn that prayer is more than requests to God. It's like you described here its a presence based relationship and it's an open dialog that is addictive once established.

I just sent you a song that matches this blog. It's a kutless song where they are singing Psalm 84 (rocked out of course). I love that song! I thought if it as soon as I started reading the psalm. The name of the song is "Better is one day in your courts"

    Have a great day!

  2. THE ONE THING I LOVE ABOUT GOD IS THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO QUALIFY TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN.WE CAN GO TO OUR HEAVENLY FATHER NO MATTER HOW FAR DOWN WE HAVE GONE. ITS MAN THAT SAYS HOW FAR A PERSON HAS GONE DOWN ANYWAY NOT GOD.

WHENEVER WE DECIDE TO TURN TO GOD HES WAITING FOR US RIGHT THEN. IT ISNT BECAUSE WE ARE WHAT PEOPLE SAY ON THE BOTTOM THAT HES WAITING FOR US BUT INSTEAD ITS BECAUSE HE LOVES US NO MATTER WHAT LEVAL WE ARE SUPPOSEDLY ON.ALSO HES NOT WAITING FOR US BECAUSE WEVE DONE SO GREAT IN LIFE THAT HE WANTS TO RECIEVE US. THE REASON HES WAITING FOR US TO CALL ON HIM IS BECAUSE OF THE LOVE HE HAS FOR US !!!!

HE CREATED US AND FOR WHATEVER REASON WE TURN TO HIM DOESENT MATTER AS LONG AS WE DO IT. HIS LOVE IS ALWAYS PRESENT AND AVAILABLE.

IT IS SO AWSOME TO REALIZE THAT ALL OF MANKIND IS LOVED BY THE FATHER NO MATTER WHAT THEYVE DONE OR HAVENT DONE.

THE RICH AND FAMOUS HAVE NO MORE OPPORTUNITY WITH GOD THAN THE SO CALLED POOR AND DOWNTRODDEN. YOU SEE THE FATHER DOESENT CARE WHAT OUR STATUS IS HERE IN THE WORLD! HE WANTS TO BE OUR STATUS IN THE KINGDOM SO THE WORLD CAN SEE WHAT THE FATHER CAN DO WHEN A PERSON WALKS WITH HIM .

SO NO MATTER WHAT YOU THINK YOU ARE OR DONT THINK YOU ARE WHAT YOU REALLY NEED TO KNOW IS HOW GOD SEES YOU !!!!!!! GOD ALWAYS SEES THE FINISHED PRODUCT WHEN HE LOOKS AT US !!!!!!!!! HE KNOWS WHAT OUR CAPABILITIES ARE AND HES THE ONE THAT KNOWS HOW TO REVEAL THEM OR SHOULD I SAY BRING THEM TO LIGHT SO WE CAN SHINE FOR HIM!!!!!

SO WHAT I THINK YOU NEED TO BE TO WALK WITH GOD IS TO TRULY BE YOURSELF,ALWAYS BE WILLING TO SURERENDER YOURSELF TO GOD AND LET GOD LEAD YOU DOWN HIS PATH AS YOU WALK WITH HIM !!!!!!!!

ALSO ONCE WE BEGIN TO WALK WITH GOD AND EXPERIENCE HIS LOVE AND GUIDANCE WE REALIZE THEN THAT ITS A GOOD THING WE ARE IN AN UNDER HIS CARE FOR WE WERE TRULY LOST WITHOUT HIM AND THATS WHY HE WANTED US TO WALK WITH HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE "HE KNEW WE WERE LOST WE JUST DIDNT REALIZE IT" !!!!!!!!!! WOW I LOVE GOD SO MUCH HE IS JUST SO AWSOME !!!!!

    LOVE YOU CHUCK,

    DOUG BROOKS SR.

  3. I LOVE how God just takes us as we are! He sees what we can become! We are ALWAYS a work in progress! We can be who we are and still let Jesus shine through at the same time! Where else can you get that besides our amazing Lord!

I love the creepy Hermit in the title. I have actually been called a lot of things because I share my love of God. Most recently I was called a "Bible Beater." When I asked why she called me that I was told it was because I was all religious. I told her it is a lot like her talking about her husband. She looked confused then I told her that I talk about Jesus so much because I love Him and He loves me and has done many great things for me, so why wouldn't I share it. I told her that I didn't think that "Bible Beater" was appropriate but Jesus Freak was! lol I wish you could have seen the expression on her face.

Anyway another great blog Pastor Chuck! Hope everyone has a great day!!

  4. Hey Chuck!

Sorry I didnt give any feedback yesterday other than responding to your FB post concerning this blog. I was actually having a rough day yesterday and I was in a lot of pain. So, because I wasnt "feeling the best" yesterday, I simply didnt give any feedback. As for today, I am in the bed with my laptop…

However, even though I am in bed, I have my books from the library and all my other books right behind me on the bookshelf that is attached to our bed's headboard. I love this set up. I hope to have the concentration necessary to read and work on a workbook I got from the library…

As for this blog, it makes me think about the countless times I asked God to help me in my relationship with Him. I love Him so much, but I struggle because I as far as my relationship with people, I very little experience with healthy relationships. Yes, I am in a healthy relationship with my fiancee, but as far as having an example to lean on for guidance and mentorship, I never got to see my own parents live as a couple or be a couple in front of my eyes…they were separated by the time I was a year and a half and divorced by the time I was 3. Yes, I knew who my dad was, but for a while, I did not see him.

And, when I hear of people talk about the Songs of Solomon in the Bible, I automatically correlate with God's desire to be close to us in our individual relationships with Him because it makes me sad thinking about the fact that I never God to see my parents as a happily married couple and why I "feel lost" in my relationship with my fiancee. Yet, on the flip side, I find peace in knowing that I approached my relationship with my fiancee with a trusting faith in God that He will/does show me how to be a "good" companion and wife to my fiancee.

  5. Life is good my friend! God is totally providing in my life. I definitely want to give Him glory for that. In an economy where jobs are hard to come by He has provided me with to different job opportunities that offer better pay and benefits than my current job. So that's way huge for me. Also just to be totally transparent I feel like God is bringing me back to life and it feels great. I feel like I've been asleep for the past few months and just going through the "motions". That's not how I wanna serve God and live my life for sure. So it feels amazing to be waking back up. That's why I really liked this blog. Its great to know that I can just be me and have an incredible relationship with our Father. I guess to me it makes it feel within reach for me. I really want to break out of all the mediocreness(is that even a word?lol) and start living some stuff right out of the book of Acts hahaha. So yeah life is good, not saying that everything single thing is glorious but i'm definitely trying to enjoy the journey ya know? I love reading your blogs man, they are full of awesome spiritual food and they help me make it through my week for sure.

  6. Great word Chuck, relationship is the key to all things spiritual. I am somewhat of a Hermit when it comes to setting time apart to accomplish a goal given by the Lord. I am not a total recluse but I will often separate myself from everyone and everything for long periods of time. It is in these times that the Lord delivers to me the gifts I often deliver to others at a later time.

    • Awesome Christian. Great name you have!! lol, when I first read you comment and I read your name I was like, WHAT, that name matches your personality so well. (embarrassed) You’re so right about what you wrote. Relationship is the key! 🙂
