Stop Being Average-Refine Your Talent-Give Us Your Best!

Happy Thursday Everyone!

I saw this video on Vickie Rankin’s facebook wall and it blew my mind, so I’m posting it here for you guys! If you haven’t heard this before, be inspired! If you have, be inspired again… and again!

Her name is Jackie Evancho… the tiny child with the extraordinarily big voice and perfect pitch, released her Syco/Columbia Records CD/DVD debut, “O Holy Night,” on Nov. 16. The CD features Jackie singing Christmas favorites “O Holy Night” and “Silent Night,” as well as new studio recordings of “Pie Jesu,” and “Panis Angelicus,” songs millions of people first heard the 10-year old Pittsburgh prodigy sing on “America’s Got Talent.” The set also includes a DVD with her “AGT” performances, her audition video, and a new interview with the singer. You and I are capable of so much more than we can ever comprehend!

Jackie Evancho is a prodigy for sure. Some people can look at her performances and say, “She just has a gift that nobody else has.” Without a doubt, she does. But what if nobody recognized that gift? What if she never had the courage to open her mouth and sing for the first time? What if she hadn’t dedicated her childhood to refining her talent.

Raw talent only profits little, unless it is refined.

It’s through practice, the talent becomes a skill.

I believe all people are born with a raw and unrefined talent… and the world will never stand in awe of what have, unless (or until) we REFINE THE TALENT.

God told Jeremiah, For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

You have HOPE

You have a FUTURE

So stop complaining about the more talented people in your life… and stop being average! Refine your talent(s) and give us your BEST!

Quotes for this message:

  • “When you are not practicing, remember, someone somewhere is practicing, and when you meet him he will win” -Ed Macauley (Basketball Player, b.1928)
  • “Practice means to perform, over and over again in the face of all obstacles, some act of vision, of faith, of desire. Practice is a means of inviting the perfection desired.” -Martha Graham (American Dancer, Teacher and Choreographer of modern dance, 1894-1991)

If you have the time, you should read the following story Jesus told to His disciples.

The Parable of the Bags of Gold

“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.

“After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

“The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

“Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’

“His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.

“‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Step up and stand out… let the revolution over your own life begin TODAY!

  1. Thanks again for a great blog and a reminder of what i need to be doing! Have a great weekend!! Thank you for helping me with your wonderful and inspirational blogs! I can not wait until your book gets here!! Love ya!

  2. I certainly need to practice things more – my writing for example. And, when I get a full-time job and start earning money again, I would like to take painting lessons and flute lessons again.

  3. Thanks for sharing this with the world! I saw this and was blown away! I had to keep looking at her and checking, Yep! that voice is coming out of that sweet little girl! amazing and so inspiring!

  4. Great reminder that the Creator of the Universe made us for a purpose and it is our responsibility to not only seek that purpose out, but be (not necessarily do) our best on that journey.

We can walk that road with confidence because of who He is and because of His great Love for us. He is faithful to see it through…do we have the endurance to match it?
