Develop An Attitude of Gratitude!

Happy Monday!

I woke up this morning, singing a Bangles song! Manic Monday (written by Prince, sang by the Bangles)!?! Help I can’t get this out of my mind-lol

It’s just another manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday
‘Cause that’s my funday
An I-don’t-have-to-run day
It’s just another manic Monday

Sunday is definitely my funday… and yesterday was no exception. Church at Destiny Family Center was amazing as it always is. I started a new sermon series, You Are A Heavenly Society! Here’s a Bible text verse from that message (that I never got to read yesterday):

“But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.” (Hebrews 12:22-24 NIV)

I’m writing today’s blog from the Waynesboro Starbucks… and I LOVE the Mighty Mango drink! Ever had one?

Develop An Attitude Of Gratitude!

I’m happy to be alive this morning. Love so many things about my life. Sure, I have my challenges just like everyone else… many, many challenges. But really, my blessings far outnumber the challenges.

For every one thing going wrong, there are ten things going right.

What you focus on and monitor always gets bigger.

What are you focusing on right now?

Focus on the goodness and you will find more goodness!

Yesterday morning, Ryan Huffer gave our church a phenomenal reminder about not taking goodness for granted. He talked about a very bad day he had on vacation a few weeks ago… the story was pretty funny, actually! He really had the worse vacation day of his life.

Ryan told us He’s been thinking about that day, trying to find some REASON behind the sudden, bizarre emotional storm he suffered. Then he said, “I realized that I was focusing on all of those bad things happening to me on that one afternoon and I had forgotten about all of the blessings in my life.” Then, he recited some of his blessings… and found that he has all of the things that really matter in this life!

Are you suffering through a sudden, bizarre series of unfavorable events? Have you lost your mind… lost your peace and happiness… lost your ability to see a single good thing happening in your life right now?

Look again!

Test the theory! Find ten things going right for every one thing going wrong. Focus on goodness. Focus on your blessings. Look for solutions. Look for success.

Train your mind to look for goodness.

Develop and attitude of gratitude.

And guess what? You will find more and more blessings… as if you are producing them by looking for them. This is how it happens!

I hope this random blog inspires a great Monday for everyone.

  1. This totally perked me up. I needed the lighthearted wit. God is doing a major work in people including myself and I’m loving it!

  2. Such and inspiriting post! I think I need to focus more on the blessings I have received and stop focusing on what I haven’t received (like a husband, kids, full-time permanent job – the things that I am typically desiring). Great post!

P.S. The “Manic Monday” song was by the Bangles…unless Cyndi Lauper did a remake…

    • You are correct Shelley! lol, I corrected the blog before I read you comment… or I would have given you credit for the information. Have a very happy day!!

  3. Outstanding blog! Counting our blessings is so simple that it is fogotten about all the time–but it really is a powerful way to chnage your life!

  4. Thanks for the reminder Chuck! Gratitude is one of the most powerful forces on earth. It can overcome the “big 3″(anger, envy and fear). Gratitude is one of the 11 Heroic Skills I write about on http://forgingleaders.com/

This is my first visit to your site and I LOVE what I see. Thank you for sharing your adventure with the rest of us. I am pre-ordering your book this morning.

    With Gratitude,

    Jeremiah

    • Jeremiah, we’re going to become great friends from the two coasts of our nation. I will pray facing west and you can pray facing east… and we can cover the nation with God’s love! I love your articles and I love your similar mission! Can’t wait until we meet in person someday.

  5. 3 month plan of goals

-Being more in the Word daily- Old Testament

-Developing a deeper “attitude of gratitude” through prayer for what God has already done in my life and attempting not to get ahead of Him….while continuing to hone the skills and gifts He’s given me for right now.

–Recognizing my need for time spent preparing for counseling work, and doing what is needed there.

-Continuing to find ways to reach out deeper at my church, specifically with teens if possible.

-Getting proper rest and refreshment- mind, body, spirit!! This one is sometimes forgotten at times 🙂

(Thanks, this was helpful- I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and it helps to put it in list form!)

    • Julie, you’re on fire… and I’m deeply inspired with your plan! I’m praying for all of this to happen just as you’ve written it!! God bless you my new friend. 🙂
