Write A One Paragraph Dream – No Limits!

Happy Thursday!

On Sunday I gave our church a homework assignment: Take 5 minutes and write a one-paragraph description of how you would serve in God’s kingdom if anything were possible.

For the maximum success of this assignment, you must learn to dream without mental limitations. You have to act as if your Father is GOD, and pretend (even believe) that you have unlimited time, talent, and money!

What would YOU do with your life… if anything were possible? No limits!

Last night, a DFC LifeGroup of 20 people completed this assignment together. Then they discussed their dreams. It was electrifying!

  • Doug, lead a homeless ministry that provides housing, rehabilitation, and career training.
  • Amy, bring healing to sick people and feed the hungry.
  • Matt & Theresa, help people out with finances… give away houses and cars, and a new start to people who really need it.
  • Chris, bring massive change in the political arena… even run for a national office.
  • Derek, bring help and healing to deaf and blind people.
  • Fonda, reduce crime by giving a new heart to evil people.
  • Stephanie & Caitlin, stop drug trafficking and help rehabilitate drug addicts.
  • Mary, give hope and healing to divided families.
  • Elizabeth, teach about casting out demons, without making the devil famous.
  • Dawn, provide a home for the homeless and give into many good causes.
  • April, place ever child in a loving home… and help with teen pregnancy.
  • Mille, start schools in 3rd world countries, dig wells and bring community transformation (also in 3rd world countries).
  • Emily, start trade schools for children in 3rd world countries.

I was greatly inspired by each of these dreams! It made me realize that my own dream (though too big for most people to believe), is not impossible. If I spend my life empowering the masses towards great Christian causes… and if I rally them with motivation, encouragement, and training… then, together, we can bring hope to the world again!

Here is my one paragraph dream without limits… raw and unedited.

“I will continue as the beloved pastor of Destiny Family Center, by serving 300 legendary leaders, serving 2000 (local) church members. I will impart the highest level of life to hundreds of thousands of people at 50 mega conferences throughout the world each year. I will create and lead the greatest (interactive media) church of all time… and form a one million member global tribe of Christians (including people from every nation of the world)… and together, we will bring one billion people to God’s salvation through Jesus Christ.”

What is your dream?

How can I help you get there? Would you like to help with my dream?

“You see things; and you say, ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were; and I say, ‘Why not?’”

-George Bernard Shaw (Irish literary Critic, Playwright and Essayist. 1925 Nobel Prize for Literature, 1856-1950)

I prayed for you this morning! With much love…

Dream Big,

Chuck Balsamo

  1. Without a doubt, I am up for the challenge to dream without limitations today. It is something that I really need to do more often to combat the former ways of doing things as if others were dressing the maniquin that God gave me to measure, fit, and dress with my divinely orchestrated gifts to edify the body of Christ (in and outside the church). Surely, there are those who stand at countless altars (in and outside the church) begging and pleaing to God for insight and wisdom as described in Hosea 4:6 (perishing due to a lack of knowledge. Yet, some people fail to realize that these same people who want to become nightlights and stars for members of the human race that are stuck in some form of darkness…they are the ones that want to be “a light unto the world” as described throughout the New Testament. Better yet, it is as if they are “stuck” as described by Paul, the Apostle, when he says, “the good I should do, I do not; the bad that I do, I should not do, but I still do”. However, I am encouraged by the Proverb that reads, “there is life and death in the power of the tongue”. Yes, to some, this may seem odd, but this inspires me because I know that God “spoke” my life into existence and protected it with unconditional love and sovereignty as described in Jeremiah chapter one…

As for me, I hope to use my gift of writing without selfishness but with complete honesty and commitment to edify the human race in such a way that people will find reason to have hope and share hope. So much so that there will be unity in the church and throughout communities. For example, in the past, I have visited those in juvenile shelters, nursing homes and other places as well. In the future, I would love to go to the men shelters, women shelters, homeless shelters and to churches that struggle with their own unbelief and dominating medical and mental health issues. Truly, I know this sounds huge, but I believe that with my struggles with my health, my mental health, being of a divorced family by the age of 3, having seen/unseen disabilities, caring for the elderly, being in an interracial relationship and marrying someone who is disabled, equipped me to do greater works beyond my imagination, goals and aspirations.

Therefore, with all this said, I’ve come to the point where I am allowing God to shake the chains off of my thinking, so that I can experience that same liberty Paul and Silas experienced in that prison cell described in the Bible.

  2. After living in lower income communities surrounded by concrete jungles, I crave the peace & traniquilty God provided us with His creations. I dream daily of living on a large farm, the kind from days gone by, pigs, chickens, cows, large beautiful gardens growing all kinds of vibrant lovely vegetables, and let’s not forget a few horses to watch run through the plush fields. This farm, God’s creation, would be open to young people from urban areas to come, some probably for the first times in their lives, to experience God’s presence and peace. To wake up in the morning and instead of hearing the neighbors fighting or the glaring car horns, hear instead the birds singing their praises to the Creator or to simply sit back and listen to the silence. It will be fun, it will be inspiring, and it will be life changing. In return all I would ask is that they take some part of what they learned at The Farm back with them, to that urban nightmarish existance, and bring lasting and inspiring change. It has to begin someplace…and what better place than in a place inspired from God’s very own handiwork. It is my dream. It is my prayer.

  3. My “dream” would be to write a book showing every “type” or foreshadowing of Christ, His suffering and the Gospel in the Old Testament. It would bring conviction and repentance to the heart of unbelievers and encourage the faith of brothers and sisters in Christ the world over. But, most of all, that it would be of the Spirit’s true calling to service.

They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?” ~ Luke 24:32 (NASB)

    • Lustus, I love your dream and I love the verse you posted with it! One of my al time favorite verses in the Bible! I’m praying for you this afternoon, friend. Where are you from… and when are you going to start that book?

      • Thank you for your prayers Reverend Balsamo. I’m from the Memphis, Tennessee area. You can sample some of my writing at my blog, Lustus : “Simul iustus et peccator”. It’s a mixture of nonsense, pontification, confessions and fanciful attempts to encourage some brothers and sisters in Christ at the church I attend. Most of my serious writing is an e-mail ministry of sorts. I started trying to teach myself to write in about 1996 and am currently trying to find a creative writing class. This November I’m looking forward to a second try at NaNoWriMo. You can hook up with me on Twitter at @wnliles. Again, thank you for your prayers and encouragement. May God bless the dreamers to see Jesus glorified in their fulfillment.

  4. Powerful!
My dream is to see multitudes of lost people in Albania come to Christ! My dream is to see And be an active part of of a mighty revival in Albania! My dream is to be a pastor after God’s heart who mentors hundreds of leaders and who pastors a strong church filled with high commitment to Christ. My dream is to lead a team of people who will spread the fire to every church and place they visit!
