Attach Yourself To Someone Who is Younger & Less Weather-Beaten Than Yourself!

Happy Wednesday!

My Facebook status from this morning: That early morning prayer and devotion time with Ricky Wade was very special to me. His unrelenting spiritual passion is a rare thing in today’s world. Thankful.

Yesterday morning, Ricky posted a status on his Facebook: Is your prayer life ON FIRE?

When I read his message, I asked myself the question: Is my prayer life ON FIRE?

Yes, it has been in the past; most of the time it is… but the question was written in present tense. IS it NOW?

I had to admit, that life had been weighing me down, trials had been stressing me out. My prayer fire was dimming.

So, I turned up the Jesus Culture album that was playing in the background… and I began to pray again. This time, I didn’t go through the motions of my normal routine. I asked God to set my prayer life ON FIRE… and He did!

The song I played:

Then early this morning, Ricky and I met to talk about God and pray. It turned into a very powerful moment, and then it hit me!

If you want to keep your edge, surround yourself with young blood!

If your passion has dimmed (even slightly) by the decades and storms you’ve endured, attach yourself to someone who is younger and less weather-beaten than yourself!

When you’re a leader, it’s easy to feel like you have to be the most powerful person in the room. It’s easy to deceive yourself into thinking that you are always at the pinnacle, that you are the model, the trailblazer.

But, that is not always the case. Any leader can be great for a few years, but to be great for DECADES, great leaders choose to synergize with hungrier, up and coming legends!

Which are you today?

Are you exhausted? Then, connect with someone who is not! Someone who can benefit from your character, experience, and endurance!

Are you young and ON FIRE? Then, connect with someone who has been on fire longer than you have. Someone who can benefit from the freshness of your fire!

I would write so much more about this topic, if I had more time today. Your thoughts?

I prayed for you this morning.

With much love,

Chuck

  1. Dear Pastor Chuck,

Thanks for writing this blog today. It was exactly what I needed to read at this very moment.See, I have a doctor’s appointment today and my body is so out of whack that, it has me really worried. I hoping for the best today and hoping that the drs visit is a success and not another run around. And, what is even more interesting is that I know I am long overdue for a vacation and a mental vacation as well, but it seems that things are happening this way to teach me a few important lessons….like the elders used to say, “Father knows best”. In my eyes, it’s God knows best…

    • Just found the lyrics to that song that was sung Christmas Eve at Destiny…and I just read the lyrics again…it’s speaks to the “Mary” within me…

      “Mary Did You Know”

[Originally written by Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene]

      Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day walk on water?
      Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters?
      Did you know
that your Baby Boy has come to make you new?
This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you.

      Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man?
      Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will calm the storm with His hand?
      Did you know
that your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little Baby you kissed the face of God?

Mary did you know.. Ooo Ooo Ooo

      The blind will see.
      The deaf will hear.
      The dead will live again.
      The lame will leap.
      The dumb will speak
      The praises of The Lamb.

      Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation?
      Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day rule the nations?
      Did you know
that your Baby Boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
The sleeping Child you’re holding is the Great, I Am.

  5. Pastor Chuck: As we get older one must plan for the inevitable. Is cremation against teachings in the Bible? I have looked and looked but can find nothing pertinent to the question. Your answer is greatly appreciated.

    Roger & Phyllis

    • Roger, that’s a great question that many people are asking these days. Here is my answer:

I can’t find anywhere in scripture where God speaks out against cremation. Therefore, I have to believe that it’s a matter of personal preference.

Of course, Jewish people have always practiced burial verses cremation… and Jesus was buried.

Some Christians are against cremation, mainly because of 1 Corinthians 15 where the Bible talks about our physical bodies being resurrected when the Lord returns. To me, it seems that cremation is just a faster way of turning the body into dust. With enough time, we will all turn into dust. Of course, in America, we embalm the body for longer preservation… but what about the rest of the world? I feel that God is able to resurrect our bodies no matter what state they are in when he returns.

When I first gave my life to Christ in 1991, the Christian establishment was mostly against cremation. Today, it seems that this has changed.

Personally, I have always wanted to be buried verses cremation. I have been against the idea of cremation, for personal, not biblical reasons. But my mind has changed on this quite a bit throughout the years.

One great advantage with burial over cremation is that the loved ones of the deceased are given a “memorial,” to visit and reminisce. This is more difficult to do when the ashes are scattered or contained in an urn and moved around, possibly misplaced, etc.

As a Pastor, it is my responsibility to give Biblical guidance on all matters concerning life and death. From my years of reading the Bible and considering the council of other church leaders, it is my belief that what one decides concerning their body at death should be a matter of personal preference. As with everything, I suggest that people pray about what to do and follow the spiritual impulse that God creates.

I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any other thoughts. And, please don’t pass away any time soon. We really LOVE you and NEED you Roger. 🙂
