Lay Down Your Swords & Trust Me! -God

Yesterday, President Barak Obama was re-elected for another 4 year team. Congratulations to our President and to all of his supporters! As with every election, some people are elated and others are depressed. I personally voted for Mitt Romney, but now we have an election and it is my spiritual responsibility to honor my president and pray for him. That I will do for another 4 years, with God’s grace.

Yesterday, I posted a message on Facebook…

To my fellow Christians… I will vote for one candidate and you might vote for another, but in the end, we are tied together by something bigger than our american citizenship. Aren’t we?? None of the men or woman on todays ballots have died on a cross in your place, to save you from your sins. Let us not forget this today. Pray before you leave the house… that God will use our election process to have His way in our nation. When we all pray to the same God and then we vote, GOD CAN INSPIRE PEOPLE… and when all of the votes are collected, He can still give us His choice for this election! I believe this, I pray for this… and I cannot wait to see it happen.

Last night, I watched live as President Obama was declared the winner. In my heart, I thought, “Dear God, how can you let this happen to us? Where were you today? There is no way this is your plan for our nation.” And my heart tightened up with the pains of hopelessness and despair.

Then I went to Facebook, and I nearly cried as I witnessed word wars between good Christian people, lashing out at each other to the death of close friendships and church affiliation.

And these words came to me…

Lay Down Your Swords & Trust Me! -God

As Jesus was being arrested from the Garden of Gethsemane, his disciples could not comprehend God’s plan for that hour. They lashed out in fear and anger, just like most people do in moments of confusion and apparent defeat.

And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus [Simon Peter] stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. But Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?”

In other words, Jesus was saying to Peter, “Stop fighting so hard to have your way! Stop feeling so angry and depressed because things don’t seem to be working out for us. I have a plan to save the world, Peter. Lay down your sword and trust me!”

God does not live in the tiny box we think He lives in!

God is bigger than the President, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. He is bigger than democrats, republicans, and independents. God is bigger than Colorado legalizing marijuana and Maryland and Maine legalizing gay marriage. God is not dead. God is not incapable of leading us to victory. He is a GOD who makes a WAY where there SEEMS TO BE NO WAY!

I personally believe (this is just my opinion) that America is going in the wrong direction governmentally, economically, morally, and spiritually. But even if Mitt Romney had been elected, he did not have all of the answers. Mitt Romney is not God, neither is Barak Obama, neither was Ron Paul (lol). I have to believe that God has a plan for President Obama!

From my vantage point, there are two things I wish for America.

ONE: That we unite our political parties, break the antagonism, create synergy… focus on solutions and achieve them!

My greatest hope for Mitt Romney winning the election was not that he had all of the answers, but that he might be able to achieve bipartisanship. We need a leader who will gather every democrat and republican into one room and find a way to AGREE on something, and then on something else, until we shift… out of antagonism and into synergy!

Bipartisanship is possible when everyone in the room elevates the good of their nation above their desire for re-election. Bipartisanship has a chance when everyone in the room cares not about which party receives the credit or the blame. Bipartisanship can happen if everyone in the room collides in humility, mutual respect, and a common obsession for the better tomorrow.

It’s a long shot, but a worthwhile dream!

TWO: That we unite the Christian churches… and love and heal and help our broken world.

We can’t help anyone if we fall into depression and hatred and we become divided against those who disagree with us. We must find a way to focus our eyes on God and UNITE around our great cause, right away.

I still believe that Jesus is the hope of mankind. Surely, we are a nation with religious freedom. I have no problem with a separation of church and state. I’m not suggesting forced religion. Just that all Christians stand up tall in a society that so obviously needs us! Jesus said, “You are a city on a mountain, shining in the night!” May the churches rise today! May we bring about a revival of religion in America! Now is the time for this.

There is so much more I’d like to say, but this message is already way too long. I’m praying for America, with great hope for our future! I trust God to make a way where there seems to be no way.

With much love…

Dream Big,

Chuck Balsamo

  1. You are so right! I agree with everything. So many bible verses are comforting me right now more than ever. My flesh is terrified for what this could mean for my sister and her husband and sons in Israel, but my spirit knows God has a plan. It hurts that people who voted for Obama are quoting scripture at me to pray for our president (Even though I already know we are commanded to pray for our leaders). They didn’t vote based on biblical convictions in the first place and the self righteousness is gross BUT I will pray for an apostle Paul transformation to happen to this president. I’m just glad it’s over 🙂 Thank you for being rock solid in your teachings and beliefs. God bless your family!:)

  2. Thank you Chuck! Very good message, we all need to hear! There are so many mixed feelings and anger …it’s not a good feeling to carry around in your heart. I pray that God guides our President and leads him in the right way…after all our God created us all, our president is one of His own! He is not an evil person..He is just trying to be the best …
President for all the people, not just a few. I believe our Father has a plan…and I for one trust His judgment and wise councle* Forgive me, I am just saying what is on my heart…In love, and healing of our people for a better tomorrow. <3

    • Sandre, yes I agree with you. At least that is the hope, that each leader is in office to make a difference. Good things can happen when we pray for them.

  3. I feel like this is the first step onto the slippery slope that leads the world into the abyss. This is the point that the persecution begins. We’ve elected Pharaoh as our president. He will continue to grease the skids for Anti-Christ, who is likely already with us. Even though I supported Romney, in my heart I knew that an Obama victory would fit better with my understanding of unfolding Bible prophesies. But let us not despair; we have the Blessed Hope! Let us hide ourselves in the Refuge of our souls. “Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left.”. Let us be the man who was taken!

I encourage everyone to read the book of Daniel, Ezekiel and Revelation as many times as possible over the next few months and years.

    • Anonymous, let’s pray for America and for people around the world. That we would make our true citizenship in heaven. This life is here today and gone tomorrow. While we are here, we must shine a light for each new generation. God bless you!

  4. Thank you for sharing these powerful, wise and knowledgeable words for us to read, re-read, absorb into our spirit and move and act on. You share a lot of the same feelings I did and I kept hearing the Lord say “Trust ME”.

    • Rae, let me know if any doors open to our ministry out there! God is moving in unimaginable ways these days… and I would love to come out there sometime soon.

    • Hazel, that was my exact hope… that today’s post would bring comfort and new perspective! Praying for you and your amazing family. Miss you all!

  5. In Genesis…”Is anything too hard for the Lord?” a resounding NO!!! I will pray more and work harder and smarter!

  6. Thanks Chuck, All day and last night as the results of the election came in, I have struggled with all of the thoughts that you so elegantly expressed in your message above. I also fought off numerous urges ( and even wrote several but each time something happened to the device or I decided not to), post some strong comments that may have started a blazing revolution in my family, some friends and coworkers. Instead I practiced restraint of tongue and pen hoping for better words to express what I so passionately believe. You’ve done that for me in your message. I will share it proudly with others. See, I know that what you wrote is because you, like myself is passionate and jealous for the things of God and it’s not easy to watch when they are “trying to take away our savior” to be crucifed” so to speak but, Yes, He did say, lay down your sword, Peter, and this finally resonates with me. Blessings my brother and thanks for your words to help me lay down my sword but still WATCH AND PRAY. Blessings Wanda Hicks

    • Wanda, thanks for sharing the message with your friends and family. Also, good job on praying instead of talking out… this is a good practice for all Christians.

“Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.” (James 1:19-20 NLT)

  7. I to believe that God has a plan that is far bigger than we can imagine at this point. The World is in such a horrible mess in all walks of life. Everyone is hurting not knowing where to turn and we can not expect either the Democrats or the Republicans to fix the problems. We are all One Nation under God and Chuck you are exactly right! Everyone needs to all get together from all sides and figure out what we are going to do. Everyone needs to stop blaming one another and start praying that the Lord will make this happen. This is my hope and prayer. God Bless the USA

  8. Amazing! Anyone that trys to further discuss this election with me I am going to direct them here and tell my family about this. It was utterly Amazing!

  9. Amen! I struggled with the outcome as many of us did, not so much because of the person of the president but the direction our nation is taking away from Biblical-Judeo/Christian values. I realized that when we pray for God’s will we have no right to complain when His will takes us in directions we don’t want to go. Thanks Chuck and God Bless! ~ Mike

    • Mike, what an honor!

So many people this morning on Facebook are wondering if this is or isn’t God’s will for our country. Some say that America took a wring turn, others say that this is somehow a part of God’s plan. Either way… He’s never incapable of leading us to victory. He has a million ways to get us there! Because He is a God who makes a way where there seems to be no way!

Let’s keep praying friend! Let’s work hard to mobilize Christians in this nation, from every denomination… to worship the living God and align ourselves in masses around His desires for our nation. God bless you sir.

  10. Chunk –

Again a message giving a strong prophetic voice. The truths spoken here are so needed. I shed tears over the words and mannerisms of many Christians I know who have defamed of God in the name of being politically right. Many of them are the ones feeling hopeless and depressed again at the start of another 4 year term. They want war not peace politically for the next four years.

Thank God, however, I am hearing a rising crescendo from Christians across the board who are making the same call you have put out. May God help us to be faithful!

    • Wayne, we should meet in person sometime. Let me know if you’re ever in this area. Would love to shake hands with my brother in the faith. We agree about so many things… there is synergy between us. Let’s see what happens. I’m praying for you friend.
