A Mutual Exchange of Encouragement

Happy Sunday!

We’re back home and real happy about church at Destiny Family Center this morning! Wow, I have really missed everyone! (photo: Mr. Peelz says goodbye to the beach)

Todays message is sure to ENCOURAGE and INSPIRE… gonna continue the message I started a few weeks ago: I Still Have a Dream Today!

More than the message, is the LOVE and FAITH I feel in my heart this morning… it’s so large! I just want to HUG everyone, and let them know how much I appreciate journeying with them!

Romans 1:10-12 One of the things I always pray for is the opportunity, God willing, to come at last to SEE YOU. For I long to VISIT YOU so I can BRING YOU some spiritual gift that will HELP YOU grow strong in the Lord. WHEN WE GET TOGETHER, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours.

This is how I feel today… like having a MUTUAL EXCHANGE of ENCOURAGEMENT!

I LOVE the people I lead at church and over the internet. My family SINCERELY LOVES the people we do life with. We thank God for all the beautiful people here in our hometown and scattered throughout the world who value our leadership… for the people who admire and share our BIG DREAMS… for all the Joshua’s and Caleb’s who without hesitation, they run to the promises with FAITH in every step!

Numbers 13:30 But Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses. “Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it!”

Yes we can! Yes we are! Yes we will!

I hope todays blog rouses up some FAITH in you guys today! Maybe you’re down at the moment… but this is only TEMPORARY… because you and I were BORN TO TAST THE GRAPES OF PROMISE! We’re doing something historical with our lives… yes we are!

Please click on to the 10am broadcast… leave your comments… and have a super duper Sunday!

The Dirty Part of the Job

Good Morning!

It’s Tuesday… birthday eve for me! Gonna be 38… it’s been a good life! I have so much to be thankful for… and so many dreams to be realized in the next 38…

An Extravagant Foundation: So far, this is what I have… or this is what I JUST ABOUT have! It’s taken a very LONG time getting to this place… 38 years of LEARNING and ADJUSTING… underground: shoveling dirt and laying block!

This morning I want to give you guys a few paragraphs from chapter 7 of my book, “Make Me a Legend.” Please keep praying I will FIND FAVOR with the right people… and get the publishing process underway! Enjoy the clip…

the dirty part of the job
Nervous people demanding split second results; this is our world. And when today’s achiever can’t measure results in terms of above ground progress; they usually jump ship in search of something far more immediately gratifying. It’s comical to watch how enthusiastic people are when they first encounter a sizable vision like ours. Springing up so quickly… out of no where, unreservedly committing their blood, sweat, and tears to nothing more than a well pitched dream… only to fizzle as they calculate how much longer it could take before they will be able to personally benefit from this dream.

Building foundations takes a very special kind of people. Building extravagant foundations takes the rarest of all! Foundation workers have remarkable foresight. With bizarre enthusiasm, they bed down in dirty places for however long it takes to get a towering dream into the air. They’ve counted the cost, knowing they may never experience the pleasure of standing on their own platform. Foundation workers accept responsibility; they welcome responsibility… for the dirty part of the job!

Get what I’m trying to say here? We must never become discouraged with these foundational years. Legendary buildings require extravagant foundations. So hey, let’s take our time… and build something extravagant… something that carries the very real potential of outlasting us by a hundred years or more! Let’s bed down in dirty places… for however long it takes to GET OUR TOWERING DREAMS UP INTO THE AIR!

I hope todays blog adds tremendous value to your amazing lives! I’m praying for you guys, with great joy in my heart! Have a super duper day everyone!

Behavioral Transformation :)

Good Wednesday Friends!

I’ve been thinking so much lately about what drives people to take certain inevitable courses of action. I’m talking about the programing behind the things we do over and over again. You see, I believe that nearly every human action can be traced back to a preset behavior. Understanding this allows us to feel compassion rather than rage towards the people who mistreat us.

There is a cause behind every effect. That nasty waitress on Friday night was only nasty because she just got evicted from her apartment before coming in to work that day… or she just found out her dad has cancer and only 6 months to live… or the father of her child is leaving her for another woman!

This waitress, now being under more stress than she can bare, while trying to serve you and your friends… she handles stress the way she has been programmed to handle her stress. Her current adverse circumstance triggers a preprogrammed pattern of behavior… and the result is the nastiest waitress of your entire life. Believe me, if you think you are miserable… you should imagine what she must be feeling!

As written in the blog, Identity Transformation - A Message From Jail, I believe that some people in this world clearly have a much more difficult time SHEDDING OFF THEIR DESTRUCTIVE PATTERNS. They are programmed for failure… and even though they feel warm and fuzzy at times over the DREAM of changing their ways… the program always knocks them back down. They are simply living the way they were programmed to live… UNTIL they are reprogrammed to live differently!

A habit is a behavior pattern acquired by FREQUENT REPETITION or PHYSIOLOGICAL EXPOSURE that shows itself in regularity or increased facility of performance. It is AN ACQUIRED MODE OF BEHAVIOR that has become nearly or completely involuntary.

HABITS are first cobwebs, then cables! –Spanish Proverb

A HABIT cannot be tossed out the window; it must be coaxed down the stairs a step at a time. –Mark Twain

Bad HABITS are like comfortable beds… easy to get into, but hard to get out of. –Anonymous

HABIT is either the best of servants or the worst of masters. –Nathaniel Emmons

Most humans at least try to act differently than they are programmed… many times a day. We want to change because we KNOW that so many of our habits are leading us far, far away from our dreams. We know that unless we change, we will never experience life as we can and should!

Everyone CAN change! God offers us many promises for behavioral transformation. Here are two…

  1. We can be transformed by the renewing of our minds. (Romans 12:1-3)  This is where we take the amazing teachings of the Bible and we program them into our minds! And so, instead of thinking and acting the way some other flawed human has programmed us to think and act, we challenge these inherited thoughts and actions… we replace them with a far better program.
  2. We can live under the influence God’s Spirit and live in the state of knowing rather than a state of thinking. God is perfect and all his actions are always perfect. He promises that we can learn to walk under his influence all the time! The fruits of Gods Spirit are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control! (Galatians 5:22-23) These are not learned behaviors… they are the qualities of living in the NOW of Gods Spirit! We can act and react like God does because he is acting and reacting through us!

Both of these promises require FAITH and corresponding ACTION. One must believe that God is able to HELP messed up people through the process of replacing their OLD DESTRUCTIVE habits with NEW and far more CONSTRUCTIVE ones… and that God is able to bring each of us into a state of living in the NOW of Gods Spirit.

The only other option is to forget about all this talk of transformation and just keep moving in the direction of our current habits… and that is a scary thought for most of us. So, go away from todays blog with more compassion for the people out there doing crazy things, realizing that they really CANT HELP IT… and have the courage to enter into the process of reprogramming for a beautiful future filled with amazing actions!

Have a super day everyone!

2008: Unfinished Business?

unfinished-business-joan-jettGood Sunday Everyone!

I’m in my office preparing for another life changing service at Destiny Family Center this morning. Hoping all of you guys wake up HAPPY and FOCUSED this morning. The Holidays season is officially OVER today and it’s BACK TO BUSINESS time!

If you’re anything like me, you squeezed out every last drop of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Years you could drink down this year… and even though you kind of wish the holidays could go on forever… you’re ready to pull up your sleeves and GET BACK TO WORK! That’s right baby… I can’t wait to see what 2009 is going to mean to me and the people in my circle of relationships!

Over the past few days, I’ve been thinking about some of my unfinished business from 2008. For me, there are several things I set out to accomplish last year, that really need to be taken care of PRIOR to tackling new dreams.

What I’m suggesting is this: In order to add new dreams to this New Year, we must hurry up and carry out the UNFINISHED dreams of this past year.

Without a doubt, some of you will have matured beyond a few of your dreams… and these outdated dreams will need to be removed.

Then there are those goals you set one year ago that got pushed aside and forgotten until now. Maybe for some of us, instead of adding 30 new dreams to our resolution calendar, maybe we should create new ways of taking care of yesteryears UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Give this serious consideration my friends… I mean you’re far more experienced today, a little more educated, with a little more influence… and instead of chalking up yesterdays dreams to failure, put them back on this list with a far more specific plan for achieving them THIS YEAR!

Today at Destiny Family Center, I’m going to be talking about Unfinished Business. If you can’t make it in person, catch the live or archived webcast on our website. God bless you all… have a super day!
