For The Days You Want To Die

Overwhelmed

There are those days when you know that, if God doesn’t help, you don’t have enough strength within yourself to keep going.

That enormous weight of responsibility, mixed with a barrage of resistance, from circumstances and people.

Fear, anxiety, terror.

Sometimes, it even makes you cry. And you feel like you might just disintegrate into thin air.

Some people say that Christians are weak because they need a god to carry them.

That’s ok, because when I am weak…

He is always strong.

Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:8-9a NLT)

Have you cried in prayer, “I need help. I can’t do this anymore. God, where are You, don’t You care about me?”

Have you begged Him to take IT away, but IT is still there, intimidating you down to your knees?

Know this: God’s power works best when you MOST recognize your need for Him.

So, stop whatever you are doing right now.

Step away from the chaos.

Change your prayers.

Ask for grace.

Breathe.

Smile.

So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9a-10 NLT)

I hear the Lord’s voice calling to you this morning…

“Come away with Me,” He says. “And I will give you new strength for today.”

This morning, I had a conversation with a lady about how her daughter was suffering in her heart… because she qualified for a team that her friends did not make.

This is a time when she should be upside down with happiness, yet she’s terrified about this promotion… in the fear of how it could make everyone else feel.

This conversation reminds me of a section from my book…

Beware, the Fear of Success…

As we learn to appreciate deep humiliation, we tend to feel safe in our brokenness. If we are not very careful, we may find ourselves preferring a life of continual suffering. We may shun success through the fear of pride. This is the anti-biblical belief that says: As long as we are always in some kind of unbearable conflict and so messed up that nobody else will have us, then we will always be perfectly united with Christ.

Believe it or not, many people fear success more than they fear failure.

Give a person a huge success—challenge the person with power and decorate him or her with honor—then we shall see what that person is really made of.

I think everyone knows this and it is a very big reason too many goodhearted people settle with a safe and manageable dream.

We are not afraid that God might think too little of us, but that He may be counting on us to step up and save the world!

We hope that we are called to be legends, and we spend years dreaming of a legend’s future—but when God says “now,” we run away and hide.

A few years ago, when I was about halfway through this book, I went through several months of hating myself for the filthy sins of my dark past life. I glanced forward with prophetic eyes and sensed that I was racing forward too fast to stop. It hit me like a ton of bricks when I heard God say to me, “Chuck, this is going to happen! Your future is not a far-fetched dream anymore. That future is now! Over the next few years, I am going point you out—and the whole world is going to feel the warmth of your light.”

Instead of being excited with this reality, I fell into a miserable depression. I stopped writing, toned down my speaking gift, and stopped doing anything powerful that might further expand my influence.

I told God I had changed my mind because I no longer felt worthy of His high calling. I asked Him to remove His power from my heart and leave me to an average future.

I told Him that I would certainly fail, so He better give my dream to someone else.

God was gracious to me during that breakdown. He gave me plenty of time to pray, meditate on His Word, and rest. Then, finally, when I was in a position to hear from Him again, I received a phone call from an old real estate partner and friend—Robert Michon. He asked me what I was doing those days, and he said he wanted the whole truth; so I held nothing back.

Thank God, Rob listened to me cry for an hour or more and then he spoke. His brilliant words and persuasive attitude rescued my dying dream that day.

He said to me, “Chuck, God has given you a gift—a wonderful, beautiful gift! The Big Guy has chosen you to rescue people out of this suffering world. You cannot hide your light under a bushel just because you’re scared of all that power. People are right now crying out for your book and everything else you’re called to give them. I know you’re afraid of what might happen, and you’re afraid of failing, but those people deserve your blessing. So get back in the race, run as fast as you can, and don’t look back again!”

Still, the fear of success creeps up every now and then. When it does, I think back to that conversation, and I stare fear in the face—and I lay everything on the line again for my dream of a better tomorrow.

You can do the same!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?” Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. (Our Deepest Fear, by Marianne Williamson)

Until you overcome this “deepest fear,” you will always unconsciously assassinate your God-sized dream in the hopes of preserving your humility. You will keep shunning high success and wishing instead for a lowly life of poverty and rejection.

I call this the trap of playing it safe.

There is so much to risk—and yet, you and I are stuck with this tameless passion in our sacred hearts.

We want to run away to the safety of a no-challenge life and yet we are driven with a dream that matters!

We are positive there is a way to change the world and not lose ourselves doing it.

There has to be a way of holding on to love. There has to be a way of catapulting today’s humble posture forward—even into the most prominent earthly arenas.

Heck yeah, we can succeed without becoming the biggest jerk in town! We can head our billion-dollar companies, sit in high political seats, and even run for president or prime minister—all without having to forfeit our values.

I just know there is a way to shrug off the bloodthirsty mobs and every lurking temptation. There is a way to manage millions of dollars without making it lord. I honestly believe that we can change the world.

Either we stay right here try our best to play it safe, and we hurry up and burn this book and turn down our beauty so we never have to worry about standing out.

Or, we can take a holy risk—and if we fall, then at least we will never be like the “man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.”

We will know that:
The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena (and we will be that person in the arena), whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at worse, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his place shall never be with those cold timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat. (Theodore Roosevelt)

As for me, I cannot bear the thought of living little when I was born to stand out!

Can you?

We should not think up a run-of-the-mill dream for ourselves, because we fear potential failure!

If you and I were created for something big, then we should never duck away from God when He smiles in our direction.

Instead, we should do everything we can to run our best race with honor, endurance, and a very impressive finish!

We must never forget that even at our very best, we are still just a men or women. Yes, we definitely want to feel the pressure of accountability to God for the way we represent Him.

We just have to keep on reminding ourselves that we are not God, and we will never be big enough to shoulder His Kingdom.

We are mortal. We are weak. But still, we are called for big things!

Knowing this frees us to try and fail, and try and fail again—as people stepping out for God.

I hope this message encourages you today!

God has given YOU a gift—a wonderful, beautiful gift! The Big Guy is asking YOU to help someone (many someones) in this suffering world. I know you’re terrified about the haters, and you’re afraid of falling flat on your face, but people need YOU. They pray for YOU to rise. They long for YOUR rescue. So get back in the race, run as fast as you can, and don’t look back again!

Momentum: Never Faint, Loosen, or Relax!

Happy Wednesday!

I decided to blog from my patio… this is the perfect morning. There is a slight chill in the air, a gentle breeze, the birds are waking. I felt like the time spent outside would be much better on my mind, than to rush off to my office. How right I was!

Momentum: Never Faint, Loosen, or Relax!

Everybody seemed to love yesterdays blog: Guess What? You’re a Guaranteed Winner! From the facebook comments, I could so feel like people were saying, “Please encourage me, build me up!”

Really, when I wrote that message, I had no idea about how many people were right now suffering with a loser spirit. I personally hate it when this happens to me… whenever I’m doing my very best for God, my family, and this world… and my efforts seem to be fruitless.

Galatians 6:9 (Amplified version) And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint.

  1. Don’t lose heart, grow weary, and faint… in acting nobly and doing right!
  2. There is a due time, an appointed season when we will see the reward of our noble efforts!
  3. We will definitely reap the harvest, only if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint!

Any time you’re acting nobly and doing right… it’s always making a difference! Positive in is positive out! Action causes reaction! But not usually right away… ask any farmer about the time gap between planting and harvesting!

There is a huge KEY to breakthrough waiting to be grasped here in Galatians 6:9… Don’t FAINT, LOOSEN, or RELAX! Read it again, focusing on those three words… and watch what happens!

Forward momentum is always the reward of FAITH and ENDURANCE! Backward momentum is the penalty of FEAR and INCONSISTENCY!

We have to break the destructive cycle of starting up noble and right actions… and then fainting, and loosening, and relaxing every time we encounter opposition and delay!

Do the noble things, do the right things… every day, every month, every hour, every second… without wavering… without fainting, loosening, and relaxing!

We have to believe in our dream before many others believe in our dream… we have to plant our dream and water our dream and nurture our dream… and sacrifice for our dream, long before it YIELDS a harvest! We have to get up everyday and ENCOURAGE OURSELVES in the wee hours of each morning! We have to pray UNTIL something happens! This is the ONLY way we will ever see the big things happen in our lives!

Journal & Announcement

Last Night! The church meeting with Pastor David Kumar from India… it was so beautiful! My only regret is that we were not able to spread the news to enough people before he came. I wish everyone could have attended those two very special meetings! May God bless David as he heads back to India soon.

Tonight! The anticipation has been building around Destiny Family Center for about a month! We’re finally starting a 13 week Wednesday night series: The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership! This is a John Maxwell DVD curriculum: a 10 minute DVD for each session, then some additional teaching from ME, and we’ll be breaking into small groups for discussion. I’m beside myself over what this is going to mean to so many of my dear friends! Each night starts at 7pm pronto… see you here?

Seeing Into the Soul of a Celebrity

It’s Friday!

Even though this means absolutely nothing to me, I know that most of the NORMAL people in this world get excited about TGIF! I’m wishing you guys a beautiful weekend! Destiny Family Center is throwing me a BIRTHDAY PARTY on Sunday evening… 5pm at the home of Mike and Cindy Fortin. You can get directions at the church office or by coming to church Sunday morning! I hope you’re able to show up and SHOW ME THE LOVE! lol The Fortins have a BEAUTIFUL place… with a very nice lake! Oh… and there will be delicious food and lots of FUN THINGS TO DO! 

Yesterday…

Sure was a real shocker huh? FARRAH FAWCETT and then MICHAEL JACKSON… both dead in one day? The whole world feels the epic impact of yesterdays loss… billions are mourning. A news caster for Fox News stated that Michael Jackson was possibly the most recognized human face worldwide, certainly ONE OF those faces! 

As this was going down and the news was coming out… I was praying for the very real families buried underneath the layers of fame that surrounded these two icons! Throughout the past decade, I have prayed for Michael Jackson, so many times. His life was so loaded with controversy… who can really imagine the PAIN… and maybe the GUILT this man CARRIED IN HIS HEART. None of us will ever know the truth about what was going on behind closed doors… but we do know that a REAL PERSON lived in front of us in a very high profile kind of way… and now he is gone. 

Michael Jackson lived in seclusion because of his FEARS and PHOBIAS. And despite his EXTRAVAGANT precautions… he still died young at 50!

FEAR, STRESS, GUILT, and ANXIETY… more deadly than any physical illness. Whenever I watched Michael Jackson on the news, this is what I saw… a person SHOULDERING THE WEIGHT of his own sinfulness… imploding under the PRESSURE of controversy… hiding in the dark because of his FEAR of losing it all… a man with everything and never able to enjoy anything.

I prayed for Michael Jackson. I prayed for him so many times… as I pray for many public figures. I look past their photoshopped images… and their 20,000 square foot houses… and all their luxuries… and fame. When I look hard enough… I can see the real human person… the lost and hopeless person who needs the very same savior we all need!

When humans become famous, we make them out to be gods… we assume they have arrived… that they have it all… and need nothing. Yet, they CRY just like you and me. There is nothing in all this earth lovely enough to silence that unsatisfied inner longing to BE NEAR WITH FATHER GOD. 

From this we see how badly people need Jesus! Everyone needs Jesus! Oh the PEACE of having our sins washed away… the FAITH that takes away our fears… the MERCY that removes our guilt! Proverbs 27:20 says that LUST IS NEVER SATISFIED. Meaning that there is no end of WANTING until we FIND THE INNER PEACE OF LOVING GOD and BEING LOVED BY HIM!

As I pray for the Fawcett and Jackson families today… I pray for God to LIGHT A PATH for their feet… a clear and simple path to the only place they will find GRACE for this moment. I pray for the billions of mourners… that they will see what I have written about today… their deep spiritual craving, that is only satisfied at the foot of the cross. May the whole world see the EMPTINESS of luxury… the LONELINESS of stardom… and the AMAZINGNESS of Father God… who reaches out to all who need REST!

Matthew 7:28-29 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.

Matthew 9:36-37 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were HARASSED and HELPLESS, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.

I just watched a video on Jonathan Woodard’s blogsite… and thought to share it with you guys! When I first experienced this video about six months ago, I remember thinking to myself, “How much of what I am doing every day is outdated and unproductive?”

The Bible is NEVER outdated… prayer is NEVER outdated… building the church is NEVER outdated… reaching unbelievers with salvation is NEVER outdated… but HOW we are going about our mission is always being challenged with our EVERY CHANGING SOCIETY!

Riveting aye? I think so! It makes me wonder how much of my time each and every day is wasted attempting todays and tomorrows mission with yesterdays methods.

Sadly, our world is filled with so many protesters of change. There is a STRONG undercurrent of YESTERDAY always ripping the trailblazers down.

Jesus explained it like this in Luke 5, “No one tears a patch from a new garment and sews it on an old one. If he does, he will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins.

If you want to make a BIG difference in tomorrows world… you’re going to have to stay clear of small minded people and paradigms. Yes, hold on to sound doctrine… never forsake the timeless message about Christ… hold tightly to the routines of prayer, devotion, and fellowship that keep you drawn NEAR to God! Just get away from anything that backs you into a corner… things that suppress creativity and consume your days in meaningless activities. 

As Christians, we should have great concern over the spiritual state of todays world. We should SPEND much more of our time apart from the political bickering that keeps us FRUITLESS. We should be walking by FAITH and LIVING by FAITH… INNOVATING the quantum leap concepts that will lead to the modern evangelization of this empty society. 

Our message is FAR TOO AMAZING to be so UNAPPEALING in this world of broken people! 

I believe that God has a BEAUTIFUL PLAN for this generation! And I’m determined to keep pressing into it, not swayed in the least by the dangerous undercurrents of yesterday.  

We are trailblazers my dear bloggers! Stay fresh… run free and stay young… reach in to the love and mercy of God that so easily snaps the choke chains of fear and judgment… and don’t get distracted for more than a week or two. We are the church of tomorrow… and no matter how things look today… we can still emerge as the FINEST CHURCH TO EVER GRACE THIS EARTH! 

I pray that todays blog acts as a catalyst of change in your amazing lives! I pray that my dear bloggers will clearly identify those distractions that keep them going backwards… and they choose to reclaim their destinies in Christ! Have a tremendous Easter everyone!! Love you all!
