Up @ 2:00am, Talking With My Son About Life!

Happy Thursday!

Stayed up till 2am talking with my son about life! Talks like that can become a little stressful at times, but I still live for each talk! It’s amazing to think about what kind of difference it makes… to grow up in a home where mom and dad love each other, and they care about their kids more than anything else in all the world! Who can really estimate the power and effect of LOVE?

Sometimes, I wonder if I’ve done well enough teaching and modeling everything Coree and Heaven are going to need in order to SHINE for the rest of their lives. I see my bad qualities showing up in each of them. I wish I could go back in time and do a better job. But then I watch a little longer and they flash out their truest beliefs, and they manifest a shocking beauty of character… and then I realize how God takes our best in parenting and he graces our children with everything else they need!

Over the past few years… both of my kids have developed a very large social network. They seem to know as many people as I know. They’re always bringing new friends to the house. And I never want to come off nosey… but I’m always asking questions about their friends. Questions like, “Do they have a mom and dad… do they get along with their parents… do they have a real relationship with Jesus… what kind of dreams do they have about the future… are they happy with their lives?”

I would ask so much more, if it wouldn’t come off as creeperish! This is because I sincerely CARE about the young people of my world. Even though they come off as so overly confident… and some of them are way beyond intimidating… they each have a real HEART… and by they time most of them reach 18, their tender hearts are broken… and hardened by so many things. And this breaks my heart!

Malachi 4:5-6 “Look, I am sending you the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the Lord arrives. His preaching will turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise I will come and strike the land with a curse.”

I want to have the greatest father’s heart! A heart that is fully turned to my children… and to all of the young people in my world… definitely, a heart that is fully turned to all of the kids that matter to my kids! I especially want to love the unloved ones… SO MUCH, that my LOVE really makes the difference for them!

It seems that kids naturally migrate in the direction where they are most loved! Even though relevance is important, nothing merges the generations more than love!

These are my humble thoughts for this beautiful day! As a result of this blog…

  • I hope more people are inspired to more fully love their children and grandchildren generations!
  • I hope more young people will more fully appreciate the loving efforts of their parent and grandparent generations!
  • I pray God will turn the hearts of our parents to their children, and the hearts of our children to their parents!

What a difference this can make in today’s world.

Here’s a song for the moment from Rod Stewart, Father & Son… the video is cheesy, but the message is POWERFUL!

Adaptability: The ABILITY to Change :)

Good Morning Friends!

Hope you’re all enjoying the New Year. This is day two… time to activate your resolutions!

This morning I want to share something with you about the subject of change. In Luke 5:37-39 Jesus talked to his disciples about the need for people to be flexible… adaptable.

“And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the new wine would burst the wineskins, spilling the wine and ruining the skins. New wine must be stored in new wineskins. But no one who drinks the old wine seems to want the new wine. ‘The old is just fine,’ they say.”

It’s a very sad thing to watch forerunners conceive, birth, raise, and release something glorious into the earth… and eventually reject what they once adored. So many humans lack the ability to adapt. As we age, we loose our flexibility. We get set in our ways and we become stubborn. We long for “the good old days” and we despise the taste of progress.

Watch generations as they age. In their early years, they are the revolutionaries. They make the world a better place through their innovations. They make ancient revelations relevant to modern generations. And it’s hard to conceive that so many of these revolutionaries end up as the primary obstacles to the next revolution.

Adaptability: the ability to change or be changed to fit changed circumstances

Do you possess the ABILITY to CHANGE or BE CHANGED… to fit CHANGED CIRCUMSTANCES? Or, are you already getting left behind… are you already FADING AWAY into nothingness? Without adaptability, we can be assured that even the BEST OF US will be left behind. So, check yourself today… make sure you are teachable, flexible, open to new ideas, easily led, and always humble enough to learn from the younger innovators of your world.

So far in my own life, I feel like I’ve been able to make somewhat of a revolutionary difference. The real challenge of my future is taking this revolution beyond my generation… and that will require adaptability.

I’m petrified at the thought of becoming an obstacle in the pathway of tomorrows progress. I dont want to miss new opportunities because I’m so personally awed and attatched to some antiquated way of doing things. So with this New Year, I’m spending quite a bit of time asking God to MAKE ME ADAPTABLE AGAIN!

Have a super day you guys! Chat with you tomorrow!

Chapter 2: The Great Hope of Tomorrow

Long after our last breath, a generation yet to live will look back into this hour. Hurry up! Catch my hand, and together we will rush back to the very place I’ve been spending so much of my time lately. Mentally, I’m asking you to imagine that we’ve been translated into the future. As you look around at the people, you can’t avoid the exactness in their genetic features with yours, and you’re overtaken with the reality that these are your descendants. For ten seconds, the sheer awe of this mystifying experience leaves you panting. Tingling all over, you wipe your eyes to make sure you don’t miss anything… your curiosity has never been this out of control!

Not knowing how much longer this will last, you’re mind is engulfed with a few startling curiosities. Right now, you must know, “What kind of world are my precious babies living in? Is it a better world, marinated in love and peace, or an unstable one steeped in hatred and deep turmoil? Are they smiling or frowning; laughing or crying; living or dying?” As they look back over their tiny little shoulders at you and me, are they gazing with gratitude or glaring in bitterness? Who are they admiring for their advantages? Where are they pointing the finger for their privations? Have you ever given yourself a few hours to eyeball our future in this sort of way?

One thing is for sure. Your name may never find its way into their history books, but every slightest move you and I make during our short span of time here on earth is creating the world of tomorrow. Clearly, the cowardly bystanders are never held in remembrance. History consistently honors those selfless pioneers who voluntarily forward vast segments of their personal pleasure into their future… the heroes who live and labor for dreams they never even realize in their life span! These are the real champions of our civilization.

Ok, there it is… the first three paragraphs of chapter two. Today, I am working on page 207… and beyond! Thanks for all your prayers and support during this very long journey!
