Book Excerpt: Stand Back and Shut up! Um, No?

Happy Wednesday!

I’ve been working on the final edit of the final chapter of my book. Of course it still has to run through my publishers editing staff, but as far as I am concerned, most of major changes have been completed. I am working on page 10 of 31 this morning… finish line just ahead!

I thought you might enjoy the opening paragraphs of this chapter… so here it is!

Make Me a Legend

Chapter 17 Untame Yourself

Stand Back and Shut up!

We are powerful, yes. We have something to say, yes we do. Our lives should be modeled and our words should be followed. We are not perfect, but there is a something very special inside of us. Jesus said that we are the light of the world! He called us the salt of this earth and a city on a hill that should not be hidden. Every once in a while, we are provoked just about to the point of radical action, but we never actually make a stand. It has been so long since we’ve stood up (made a real stand) had a real voice in our society. We’ve been talked down, mocked down, and beaten down. We hide in our safe havens, sweltering in silent frustration, resisting the evilness of our day, but only through non-participation. Although the numbers are on our side, we are slaves to a wicked minority simply because we fear them. The whole universe watches and wonders how much longer we will stand back and shut up!

Long after the Civil War, equal rights were still nothing more and a far-fetched fantasy for most African Americans. All the way into the 1950s, segregation was still running rampant all over America. Who could have predicted the coming of one tiny spark and how she would set the whole forest ablaze? Rosa Parks was that spark!

On December 1, 1955, Rosa said, “Enough is enough,” when she refused to tolerate the segregation that demanded she yield her seat to a white man. News of Rosa’s legendary stand inspired a sudden and swift upheaval that prepared the way for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the beginning of the end of segregation. Rosa Parks is remembered for saying, “People always say that I didn’t give up my seat because I was tired, but that isn’t true. I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I usually was at the end of a working day. I was not old, although some people have an image of me as being old then. I was forty-two. No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in!”

Just like Rosa Parks, it seems that you and I have taken one too many walks to the back of the bus. In silent frustration, our fears are shriveling before the magnitude of our God-sized dreams. The fire inside of us is just about greater than the fire that rages against us. We are sick and we are tired of being dominated by this godless culture. We are tired of giving in! No sir, we will not stand back and shut up! Not today, or any other day. With this one tiny spark we will ignite the greatest spiritual awakening of all time!

Woooosh! Dear God, that gives me shivers… and I’m the person that wrote it! Your reaction?

Here is the perfect video for this moment, Jonathan David Helser, I Will Not Be Silent. It’s slow starting and it’s slightly bizarre… but it’s very WILD and passionate! It reminds me of Exodus 9:13 when God told Moses to confront Pharaoh: Then the LORD said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning, confront Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me.” Sometimes, I feel like the spirit of Moses is blowing through the air today. A generation is rising and they were born to confront the Pharaoh of their day! Let my people go! We are not afraid, we are not afraid, we are not afraid! Thus says the Lord, “Let my people GO!”

Here is mainstream version of my passion-for all of my mainstream friends. Desperation Band, I Will Go.

I just finish praying for you (with tremendous passion), hoping you really feel the difference. Please leave your comments here on this blog site so that we will always have a record of your beautiful additions. Have a happy day everyone!

With much love…
